More people saying byu to big 12

Well, I've been reading rumorboard, and a lot of people have been on lately sayin that they know that byu is goin to the big 12, but I thought his post was particularly interesting.

That guy is saying exactly what my opinion has been on this whole big 12 fiasco. It didn't make sense for the midwest and texas schools to move to the pac 10, it was a logistical nightmare. Also, it makes sense with all the tv money being spent on championship games and stuff that the big 12 can't stay at 10 teams for long. The television networks that are paying big money to broadcast a championship game are going to make too big a stink to have them stay at 10 teams long. BYU is a great fit for the big 12 north and as it sits right now could win that division.

Interesting reading that's for sure. Kind of like the Apocrypha and the gospel according to St. Judas.



I've heard a number of BYU to the Big 12 rumors ever since Yewtah got the invite and each one seems fairly different on the details (First Air Force, then Arkansas, now TCU...). Count me in the crowd that doesn't buy it.



I think the Big 12 will successfully petition for a conference championship (why wouldn't they get their approval?) and eliminate any dollar discrepancy that BYU could help make up.



Either that or the Big 12 invite we DO get will be so watered down and drastically unfair in terms of revenue sharing that it may make more financial since for us to stay where we are. If Texas has proven one thing in the last few months it's that they are fierce (and self-interested) negotiators. Since they know how badly BYU would want to make the same jump as their rivals and "graduate" from non-AQ status, they'll think they can get us for a song or not at all. To make matters worse, Big -12 has options, BYU does not.



I don't see it happening without some masterful negotiating on BYU's side and if it does, I could easily see us accepting a deal we'll regret.

He said that the BCs was pushing conferences to move to 12 teams. How is the Big East going to do that? Absorb 4 more teams from Conf USA? how many basketball teams would they have?

Two thoughts:



1. I'll NEVER trust anything that comes out of a :utard: mouth at face value.



2. I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I'm just assuming BYU is stuck in the MWC forever until there's a press conference down at the Y with Bebee et al shaking hands.

The Pac-10 and Big Ten have tried before, and been turned down. Why would the NCAA grant the Big-12 approval to hold a CCG with only 10 members, when the Pac-nada and Big T1E2N just had to go to 12 teams to get it? Not going to happen. If the Big 12-2 wants a CCG, they'll have to go to 12 members. I'm just not convinced that BYU is actually very high on their list.

The TCU idea is news to me. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to add TCU but he does say that TCU is purely political. On the other hand maybe Baylor keeps TCU out since TCU said that they will keep Baylor out of the MWC.



I agree with the logic of everything he wrote too. And it falls in line with why BYU has been utterly silent these past couple of weeks.

Here is who I want to join the Big 12 in order.

1. BYU/ Notre Dame- I know, I know, impossible.

2. BYU/Arkansas- More probable then ND but not very likely.

3. BYU/Air Force- Lessens BYU's travel costs and I can reasonably drive there.

4. BYU/TCU

That is a good point. Maybe his "Insider" is actually one of his WOW buddies and they talk college sports between quests.

Gurney over at scout.com around 3 said he has changed his mind and thinks expansion could be happening this month. didn't really give any citations to a source other than the b12 meeting today. but you kind of get the feeling he knows something that maybe the average person may not know???



i am in the boat that they expand by the end of july. i don't think they sit with 10 teams, especially if they don't want to add texas team. the texas legislature and pressure by them to add tcu or houston is just going to grow with time. if they want to expand out of their footprint they better do it now.

I think this may be wishful thinking for now. Personally,I hope I'm wrong, but I think they're going to give it a go with the 10 teams for a while, as long as the dollars come out as projected. If they don't, then bye bye Big 12(10).
