Surprise Movie of the Summer?

I am very intrigued with this movie....I'm hoping it will be the "Taken" of this summer's movies.



Philip Noyce comes back to direct for the big screen after about a 10 year hiatus, but he had some awesome spy/intrigue movies in the 90s. He directed The Saint, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Bone Collector. Not a shabby resume there for this type of movie.



Add to that a Kurt Wimmer story--The Recruit, UItraviolet, Thomas Crown Affair, Law Abiding Citizen, and (one of my favorites) Equilibrium. Wimmer's material is generally top notch, but he hasn't been able to get his stuff in front of a seasoned director (he directed Ultraviolet and Equilibrium himself). I like his espionage material combined with Noyce's chops for the subject matter.



Finally, there is the star--Jolie, who among other assets that won't be mentioned here, is a believable cast as a spy-but-maybe-not-a-spy, and she has the ability to do the action material. Liev Schrieber is always a welcome #2 for me as well, especially if we're going to have some Russians in the mix.



Here's hoping! So far the Summer has been a bust at the theater.

I haven't even seen a movie this summer since they all look so dismal. This at least looks interesting enough to see. I hope it works.

Toy Story 3! Seriously, very good film, probably the best of the bunch.

When the trailer green intro comes up, and it says "approved for appropriate audiences", what exactly does that mean?

Salt looks great. wanted to see it for a while.



I was really surprised by the Prince of Persia. It was a really fun, fast moving film, with some good action. It was much better than I expected. if you haven't seen it, it is a fun one.
