If MWC was BCS, then would BYU want to go to the Pac?

Let me preface this by saying that the MWC would've been a beast at the top with both Utah and Boise. I would wager it would be the best top 4 football school of any conference...anybody got a stronger 4?



I'll also say that I think Utah will compete well in the Pac---the Pac isn't any better than the MWC in football. BUT they will get WORKED in other sports.



Now with that said, if the Mountain West was a BCS conference right now, would you guys want BYU to go to the PAC? I see very little upside to this---and considering the Mountain West will be BCS in a couple of years, what is the big deal?



I don't see BYU to the Pac being a good thing, especially if the MWC is a BCS conference. I'm not jealous of Utah, and in many ways I see this as a good thing.

The best reasons to go would be to increase your exposure to the California recruiting area and play against USC or whichever Pac-0 is the newest flavor of the year. Pac-0 doormats are better than MWC doormats.



there's that, and the fact that Pac-0 has a much better TV deal which has been our biggest achilles heel so exposure not just in marquee matchups, but just the ability of people to see us play.

The big boys are stupid and greedy. If they were as smart as they think, they would have given the MWC a bid starting in 2009. The BCS money is good, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to the new TV deals going on now. Giving eh MWC an extra $9-10M a year is nothing, absolutely nothing, when averaged out over the 6 conferences per team.



Having said that, BYU still jumps to the PACx or Big 12 if the MWC has a BCS bid. And it is as simple as this: $$$. The MWC TV deal is crap, and the deals with those other conferences gives you an extra $10M or so a year, while added BCS money gives maybe $1M a year more. Not even a close comparison. The MTN TV deal is killing BYU.

I say no. After the MWC gets AQ status, the MWC will get a much better TV deal. Our TV deal (like our bowl affiliations) reflect the MWC's 2nd class status.



I would much rather stay in the MWC than leave for so-called greener pastures...
