Not so fast. Utah's not going anywhere.

We are really jumping the gun here with the assumption that Utah in the Pac is a done deal. They haven't even been contacted yet. This was all conjecture. Just because it seems to make geographical sense doesn't mean that has anything to do with the Pac's decision. Everything I'm reading has the Pac being VERY unhappy with the "baggage" that is the University of Utah. Too many writers have jumped the gun on this and assumed this would happen. The Pac appears to have been going for broke and put it all on the table trying to form their super conference. Utah was never a real consideration unless they would have been the sixteenth team over Kansas. The assumption is that now that they have CU they need somebody to "balance" that out or something. The reality is that CU was a MISTAKE and they know it. They bring nothing to the table. They were just one preliminary piece to their Pac 16 puzzle and now that it didn't happen, they're probably feeling stupid for having brought them on. Inviting Utah, in their minds, doesn't improve nullify the mistake of adding CU but adds to it. I highly doubt that at the end of all of this we will see Utah in the Pac 10. It would be nice for a miracle to happen and we both get invited to the Big 12 (or actually, I would prefer Air Force to be the other team with us) but when the dust settles on this issue, I bet the Big twelve sticks with ten and changes their name somehow, the Pac 10 stays with eleven and licks their wounds of disappointment, and BYU, Utah, TCU and Boise carry the flag for the next two years in the attempt to get us inclusion to the BCS party on our own. But hey, miracles happen.

I think we can get AQ after this evaluation. We might have to add Houston and maybe have a team volunteer to leave (for a year). You have to play their games now.

yeah, and ESPN sources also had Texas to the PAC10, so not sure I would believe them at this point. I trust no sources in this issue.

Seems like Utah's best bet would be to stay in the MWC get AQ status, then play midpack Pac-10 fodder (although I would enjoy watching the latter)

Yeah, I'm being serious. As of a couple days ago it was a done deal that the six big twelve teams were going to the Pac. Didn't happen. I've been reading a LOT on this and although Utah seemed like a good option for the Pac from outsiders, nobody in the Pac seems to think taking them is a good idea. Our own conference just reported to ESPN that Utah has not even been contacted by the Pac. I don't think it's happening.

i think all we know as of today is that Utah has not been contacted by the PACk of wOlves since Texas decided to stay. Given the severe lack of penalties the MWC charges its members, the PAC has no deadlines to meet with Utah.



I agree that taking Colorado was a push to topple a teetering conference that ultimately failed but from what I've read, I still think Utah is gone.

I think the last 10 days have seen an awful lot of poor journalism. "Unnamed sources said..." "According to sources close to the situation..." "Anonymous sources with knowledge of what's going on behind close doors are reporting that..."



Anonymous sources should be the last resort not the modus operandi.



EVERY reporter at ESPN who reported on this situation should be forced to read this article aloud to their supervisors and explain why they didn't do this.

I explained my reasoning in another thread but I would not be surprised at all if the PAC decides to stick with 11 for a while. They see that the Big 12 won't have a conference championship and they really don't want one so why have one?



The Big 12 should jump on this and invite BYU and Utah while that package is available. But I don't think they are that smart.

Since it takes two years for a school to leave the Big XII and only nine months for a school to leave the MWC, the PAC can still take time to explore other options knowing that the Frutes would jump at the chance to be invited, even if it is last minute.

What is really going on here??? What is the next move by the PAC-11 genius brain trust ( :bug: ). That invite to CU was BRILLIANT!! ( :sick: ). That really influenced Texas to "jump" eh????



If the PAC-11 offer does come - them Yewts need to really consider - it's not always better - or what it seems initially. We shall see .......

Larry Scott said today that a deal with Texas to the Pac was done, and in place for the last FEW MONTHS, and that over the weekend when A&M declined, the deal then fell apart.
