Big Twelve folks want us; Pac 10 folks don't want Utes

Okay I was up till almost 2am reading every article that pops up in the top right corner of this site regarding conference expansion and, not that it necessarily will end up mattering, but the tone coming from Big Twelve (10) country sports writers is very positive about adding BYU (along with either Utah, Air Force, or Memphis) whereas the Pac 10 (11) sports writers seem almost appalled at the idea of adding Utah to counterbalance with Colorado.



That's kind of nice to hear. It's not just the sports writers themselves either. You read the comments of Big 12 fans and they all seem to think it would be awesome to add us to the mix.



Now, this may simply be because Big 12 fans generally feel a sense of relief that their conference didn't just totally implode and the Pac fans are feelings dejected after their dreams of grandeur came to a sudden halt, but it's pretty cool to hear such good things mentioned about us in Big 12 country, and if we WERE to get in to the Big 12, well.....that would just be the most awesome thing ever.

BYU has a good national reputation, and it does not hurt that we just beat OU, have a 2-0 record v. them and Texas, and have Texas on the schedule in 2011. We are on the Big 12 radar. Being ranked the last 4 years helps as well. That matters to the Big 12 fan. I like our chance their, especially if we go North and OU and Texas stay south.

So, just brainstorming here, but let's say you're the Big XII, you want to add two teams, BYU is one of them, and for some reason you just really wanted to stick it to the Pac-10. Wouldn't the awesomest way to do that be to invite BYU and Utah right now? I mean, who does the Pac-10 get after that? CSU, maybe, since they like having pairs of natural rivals? The clear winner in that scenario is the Big XII, which gains two of the top non-BCS teams in the country and one of the best rivalries in the country, and the clear loser is the Pac-10, who takes the disaster that is Colorado off your hands and a middle-tier MWC school.



Here's hoping the Big XII has the same sense of irony that I do. :D

In your scenario, maybe the P10 could take TCU, to satisfy their lust for a Texas team. To satisfy Cal and Stanford though, they'd probably have to become TU.

This may be true, and the AD's might even want BYU in the mix at some point. However, it is very clear that neither the:

want to change the Big 12(10) at all.



If it does expand again in the future, BYU's best in is to continue to do well in football and knock the lights out in basketball in Fredette's last year.
