Does this imply that the waters in the Big-12 (or whatever they are now) are not as bad as previously though?



And that rogue tweet about AFA and BYU joining the Big-12? A hacked account really?

I do know this: if Utah bails then the MWC will be weaker for it.

I hope the B-12 comes a'callin. But I would think they would go after CSU over AF. CSU would be an upgrade to Colorado and BYU would be an upgrade to Neb based on the last 5 seasons.

Unfortunately, despite what may have happened on the football field, Nebraska has more eyes watching its games than does BYU, and Air Force gets more viewership than does CSU.

If Utah stays put, I think BYU would be better off staying with the MWC - it would be a stronger conference than the PAC whatever. If Utah leaves, however, I'd love to see BYU and Air Force move to the Big XII. That would give me a great chance to attend some BYU games here in Iowa (Iowa State). Also, the conference would be a great basketball conference (BYU, Kansas, Kansas State, etc.).

Thats not much of a prediction that Utah is going to go the Pac 10. I think its pretty obvious to everybody that this was going to happen. Especially after the MWC invited Boise State. When that happened I knew that Utah was likely going to the Pac10.



I think BYU will keep dominating in the MWC and get a BCS bid easier than Utah ever will. If they keep winning the recruiting battle won't change all that much given the type of players BYU gets anyway. They have their niche and it won't change if we keep winning in my opinion.



I also think utah will do better in the pac10 than most think. the pac10 teams just aren't that good. usc is on a whole different level but they are not the same, especially not with the sanctions they are facing.

That's my question. IF Utah gets invited to the PAC-whatever, does this help their recruiting? They already proved that they could make it to a BCS game, but now, if they ever go undefeated again, they will likely make it to the BCS Championship game. If not, they've got the Rose Bowl in their back pocket. Those are huge draws.

To me, that is the 3rd best reason for BYU to get into a BCS conference. We lock up more top LDS athletes. Guys that want BCS play would now consider BYU again. Obviously, the HC will not allow BYU to get all of them, regardless. Some guys just don't want to deal with it. Reason #1 is still the great $$$ and #2 the improved perception and reputation from being in the club instead of an outsider.

Well, since the changes to the Big 12 don't start for 2 years, there is a chance that BYU can be asked to join the conference anytime between now and Sept 2011 for the 2012 season.



My guess is that it probably won't happen. Is going independent a good move, or not?

Personally I think going independent is the next best option to joining a BCS conference. I think BYU can go independent in football only too. BYU dominates the MWC in the majority of other sports as is proven by the fact that BYU owns nearly half of all conference championships. The MWC would readily hold onto the rights of all the other sports.



I think ESPN would gladly pick up a contract with an independent BYU, they loved BYU back in the pre-MTN days. And if not BYUTV reaches more homes then the MTN does already. Plus Bonneville Communications would probably pick them up anyway.



Scheduling wouldn't be a problem as teams know already that a game against BYU is a sell out or close to it.



I have been and will remain a pro-independent guy, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

The con is not having a conference championship to play for. Bronco uses that each year as a team goal, so not sure how much he'd like losing that chance. And seeing how it is BCS or bust at Notre Dame, not sure I like that option so much. I like having that conference itle to play for. and wih TCU and BSU to compete against, along with improving teams at Wyoming, CSU and SDSU, I think the MWC is getting stronger.

reports are coming out that may change that. nebraska is going after this year and now they think colorado may be able to follow suit. wrubbel has a post about it on cougartracks.

Sorry to leave you so unimpressed.

Issue is does the PAC10 want them now, or in 2012 when the new TV deal kicks in. PAC10 is pretty stingy, so only way they add teams in 2011 is if they accept no $$ in year 1, or a major reduced share. Obviously, Utah takes it because it will be better than the MWC, and Colorado may as well since it might be better than the reduced share they get in 2011 since they are leaving. Who knows, but I am inclined to think that the PAC10 tells them it is 2012.

My source originally indicated that BYU would not get an invite this year, but would be a top consideration in a year or two. Last night or the night before (whenever I started this thread), he mentioned that a few minutes previous to our discussion some Big12 officials were still making inquiries to BYU.
