Texas Staying in Big 12 per Chip Brown

I think Chip Brown has been played like a deuce from day one by his Texas sources.



I think Texas has been intent on staying in the Big XII from day one, but has been courting the other conferences to leverage the Big XII into moving a bit faster on a TV deal as well as maintaining their merit-based pay structure. I think Beebe's meeting with UT was less him presenting novel ideas to persuade UT to stay, and more him capitulating to what UT has wanted from day one.

If you report every possibility, then you'll get one of them right in the end and everyone will remember you as the one who broke it. Never mind the fact that you broke 12 other stories that didn't happen.

It could also be that Texas is using Chip Brown as its PR outlet. With Brown reporting this, the pressure is now on A&M. If A&M chooses to go to the SEC, then it will now appear as though A&M chose to break-up the Big 12, while Texas, along with OU, OSU and TT, made a last ditch effort to keep it together. They come out looking like the good guys, and A&M the bad guy. Either way, Texas gets the deal they want. They just want to look clean doing it. Pretty savvy move on their part. This is going to create some really bad blood, more so than there already is, between Texas and A&M for years to come.

A&M sucks. End of story. Inflated sense of worth, yet have little brother syndrome. Sound familiar to anyone that BYU competes against? Exactly.

This has all come down to leverage for Texas, which is why no one knows where they're going to go; they're going back and forth like an auctioneer.



They're looking for the best deal and most desperate to promise them the sun , moon , and stars.



I dont' blame Nebraska, Colorado, and potentially A+M for wanting to get away from it. It's pure and simple a power and money grab by Texas, and they're attempting to up the ante on everyone before they make a decision.



They've played Chip Brown like a puppet (and everyone that bought into his info)... whatever happens, Texas is going to get the most possible $$ and control out of it and everyone else is going to have to cater to them. I wouldnt' want to be another school in the Big 12 having to beg Texas to save them.



I dont' think Texas knows what they're going to do; because they're simply waiting for others to get more and more desperate. Maybe they can get KU to name their fieldhouse "Longhorn court"... seriously, it's getting ridiculous.



Hey Pac 10?? Can you beat the Big 12 stragglers new offer?........ Hey stragglers, beat the Pac 10 offer.... and on and on

The question is, if BYU had that kind of power, or the ability to have that kind of power, would we disown it?

No, we wouldn't. If BYU was up for a PAC10 invite, we take it in .00001 seconds and leave Utah and the MWC behind. But we will not get that power until SLC grows and the church grows as well, and we perform on the field of play at a higher level mroe regularly. Not top 15, but top 5 in CFB and hoops. BCS win, Elite 8 in hoops, etc. When that happens, can;t be ignored.

Assuming that the Big 12 chooses to stay married, what move does Larry Scott make? Maybe he invites Kansas to get to 12 Pac teams and insures Kansas' survival. That would leave only 4 slots left to the next four teams to commit or the offer will be pulled. The game is not over yet. If the Big 12 stays together, the Pac 11 might stay at 11 and give it a year to see what happens. If they take Utah that might be the end of their expansion moves.

The most likely scenario being reported right now is the worst possible thing for BYU. Big XII stays together, only with just 10 teams. Utah goes to Pac-10. Not good at all.

Positive is that Utah keeps BYU on their schedule because BYU will continue to be the only game they sell out every year. So BYU has a good chance for a victory vs a BCS school every year.



We'll see how the MWC does with it's BCS inclusion but it might be time for BYU football to go independent.

Right now it is being reported that the Big 12 - 2 will remain intact and they are talking about a new TV contract that will pay Texas, T Tech and OK as much as $25 a year. Good incentive to stay. Of course by the time this gets posted there will be a change to it.

BYU won't go independent.



Lavell Edwards said the other day that if Utah goes to the Pac of Crap he sees the rivalry between BYU and Utah eventually ending.

Utah will chicken out, say they already have it too tough and need easier games. Wait and see. Utah would end the rivalry for a win v. SJSU or some other crap school, because the U sucks tailpipe.

Geographically to me it doesn't make sense for Kansas to jump to the Pac of Crap. I think they wouldn't want to travel that far for conference road games in addition to jumping 2 time zones five games a year in football and 10 times a year in basketball. I guess stranger things have happened.

It makes more sense than waiting 12 months, seeing Missouri bolt for the Big Ten, seeing Texas A&M bolt for the SEC, and be left wondering whether your school will survive or not.

If Kansas caves in and run then the other Big12 teams would join in and then you are in the East Division so travel is not bad.
