What should BYU do now?

I know that BYU is usually hush hush on these sorts of issues and I'm hoping that means that they aren't just sitting back waiting to see what happens. I'm of the opinion that BYU needs to be extremely proactive in these uncertain times. Here's what I think BYU needs to do:



Right Now: Today BYU needs to get on the horn with the BIG 12 and tell them that they are willing and waiting to take the place of Colorado.



Right Now: BYU also needs tell the Big 12 that if the rest of the Big-12 leave for the PAC that BYU is willing to influence other MWC schools to defect to the Big 12 in order to save the Big 12. BYU is the top dog in the MWC and they have enormous influence on every other school in the MWC. BYU would easily be able to round up enough teams to save the Big 12.



BYU CANNOT just sit around and have their fate rest in the hands of the MWC bozos. That would be a HUGE mistake by BYU. If when all is said and done BYU is left on the outside looking in then the BYU administration will have nobody to blame but themselves. And I for one will be furious.

I suspect they are in touch with the Big12 to see about joining them now that Colorado has been invited to the Pac10.



I doubt they are sitting on their hands waiting by the phone for a call to the Bigs.



Then again, I have no personal info to substantiate this, but it only seems logical.



Otherwise, I am not sure there is much they can do other than work through Thompson on behalf of the MWC to invite the Big12 leftovers to join the MWC or at least form a new conference or newly reformed Big12.

I'm not sure that BYU shouldn't just pull up a nice chair and witness the carnage. If the Big 12 folds, the MWC is in a much better position of strength than they were a month ago... I'm not sure we should beg the leftovers to join us. They all are acting like they're too good for us... so let them stew. Aside from Missouri, non of them offers a football pogram capable of improving our BCS resume'; the rest are good programs that would improve our cache but do not bring strong football to the table rght now.
