The PAC-16 Wants to act like 2 Conferences

The PAC-10 wants a BCS auto-bid for each 8-team division champion, and they don't want to play a conference championship game. Thus creating the potential for a PAC-PAC National Championship game.

" The coach said it's possible the Pac-16 would push for two automatic bids to the BCS, one for each division champion. That potential bonanza could open the possibility of the two division champs from one league playing for the national title, and it would eliminate the need for a conference championship game. "The Pac-10 doesn't believe in a championship game," the coach said. "And coaches in the Big 12 don't like it anyway." "

This would supposedly get the PAC-16 tie-ins with both the Rose bowl (West #1) AND the Fiesta bowl (East #1). Which would suck for the MWC.

Why would the BCS, the NCAA, Congress, 11 football conference and 120 I-A schools approve this? :angry:

If the PB16 wants this, they really should go for a modest 24-school conference, with 12 in the two division Pacific group, and 12 in the two-division inland group. Then they could have championship games in each group and send two AQ teams to BCS bowls. I'm sure 24 teams would be easy to manage.

I guess they can "want" anything. However, unless we end up with 3 -16+ team conferences and each of the conferences agree to two BCS bids each, I don't see the other conferences going for it. Even the PAC 16 with Texas and the California school of the day (USC, UCLA) they don't have enough clout to force that. It would require a complete takeover of the ACC, Big East and the Big 12 in order for that to happen. If that type of chaos occurred, the MWC and Conference USA/ACC would be able to pick up enough "scraps" that they would be able to demand access and once again, you would have too many other hands in the pot to allow the PAC 16 to have both hands in. In short, if they successfully pulled that off, it would be the equivalent of scoring about 10 touchdowns in the final 3 minutes of a game.
