This summer's new craze- The college football expansion waiting game!!



The PAC-10 is waiting on the Big XII-6.

The Big XII-6 are waiting on Texas.

Texas is waiting on Nebraska.

Nebraska is waiting on the Big Ten.

The Big Ten is waiting on Notre Dame.



If Notre Dame's sack would just drop they could join the Big Ten and avert the whole rest of the mess. And their voice would deepen too, along with the disappearing acne!

Actually, there may be some legs to Notre Dame joining the Big Ten (with the Domers sharing the same Friday deadline with the B10 as Nebraska with the Big XII), with the Big Ten promising then to stay pat at 12 teams! Good for the Irish and great for the Big Ten if this really is the case!!



The college football Cold War nuclear arms race will be over, and with no major conferences growing past 12 teams all of college football wins! HOORAH if this turns out to be the end of it.



Well, the MWC adding Boise State would then be the end of it. :D

I disagree. The voice may deepen, but the acne will always be there for Notre Dame.

If Notre Dame goes to the Big 10, the PAC 10 will still expand. And that means that Colorado and Utah are back to the likely scenario. And best case then is BYU to replace Colorado. I hope it all goes down this way.

I hope it goes this way too. Boise State would be a good MWC replacement for BYU if we get the Big 12 invite. (Not that I would be all that concerned for BSU & the MWC if we get the invite)

If ND goes to the Big 10, wonder what that means for Mizz and Neb? I think they stay put. But I suspect Colorado and Utah will be on the move, and hopefully BYU to replace Colorado. Let's hope that is it. I hate Notre Dame, but it is time they entered the 21st century in football. They have been stuck in 1989 for a long time now.



And it sounds as if those talks are now actually moving forward, and it no longer just rumor. Notre Dame to the Big 12 could finally happen. It needs to.

I know you meant Big 10, but wouldn't that be a mess if the things came full circle and Notre Dame ended up in the Big XII. I think the main thing that needs to come out of all this expansion nonsense is new, more descriptive names for conferences. No more of this "Big (add # of teams here)."



How would you all name the new conferences? If we want to be totally accurate in our descriptions the Big XII should be "Texas, et.al." and the Big 10 should be renamed "Consistently Overrated."

Better watch out or I'll bust out some Big Ten apologism... It's more that Ohio State is consistently overrated and the conference is overhyped (which I think is different than overrated).

They, like the ACC, are worse than the Mountain West in football according to the BCS qualifying numbers (which the Big Ten doesn't meet).

just got off the phone with a long-time Notre Dame fan and alum. I asked what his thoughts on joining a BCS conference and his words



"If the current administration ends up joining a conference they will have an uprising from the alumni unlike anything they could imagine."



he went on to explain just how independence is valued in South bend and is considered one of their unique, global competitive advantages and football is only a piece of that. Along with the idea of being forced to play Big 10 bottom feeders each year, it was pretty clear where he stood. I wonder how well he speaks for current alumni but it was a perspective I hadn't heard.



He did not have kind words for the capacities and competencies of current Notre Dame Admins to see beyond the immediate short-term.
