If BYU beats UW, it's because of homer refs

A: ...for the BYU game, the on-field crew will be from the Mountain West Conference. That's because this is the second-game of the contract that began with BYU coming to UW in 2008 and that game was worked by Pac-10 officials. As I'm sure you all remember, that's the one ended with the celebration penalty on Jake Locker (the picture to the right is of Locker celebrating on that play with Devin Aguilar just after tossing the ball in the air --- the ball isn't in the picture as it was circling the moon at that moment). Anyway, it has been common Pac-10 practice that it uses its own refs for home non-conference games, and the refs of the other conference for road games... That is something it has done largely for money reasons and something it is thinking of changing --- most other conferences do it the other way around, the thinking being it may be more fair to have your own refs on the road to help even out the home-road issues. But even if the Pac-10 alters that policy, that wouldn't change this game.



My advice, however, is not to worry so much about the refs but if UW can get a running game going to keep BYU's offense off the field. Get Chris Polk 100-plus yards and I don't think the refs will matter. "

Question: Why are teams looking to officials for an advantage regardless of where they play? Shouldn't teams want an evenly officiated game that prefers neither team so the only difference between the teams is their quality of play?



No wonder UW has been down the last several years, they've been waiting for officials to bail them out.

Another question...what is the NCAA's role in college football? Beside allowing the BcS to run rampant...they allow each conference to have own refs. Isn't that just asking for "homer" calls? Shouldn't the NCAA field all neutral referee crews?

UCLA thought the same thing. The refs didn't homer us, the Bruins homered us with several fumbles and great position. Even with Locker, they will play into BYU's hands.





Note to UW: If you doubt your own refs, that's a pretty good indicator of how cheating represents the marketplace. Biotch's.

This HAS to be some kind of joke. Not even the homeriest of Pac1 homers would dare complain about another conference's officiating!

What most people forget, the Mountain West no longer has its own refs. IIRC the share refs with the Big 12 and WAC. The conferences did this to better train the refs, and hopefully avoid having the same groups of refs involved with the same team more then once in a year. If the refs are biased, it will be because they hate the PAC-10 and the poor refing that comes from their conference, rather then them supporting BYU.

That was just a random fan question, don't read too much into it. The majority of actual UW fans don't spend any time worrying about refs.
