I would agree, because I'm hoping for BYU's sake and Jimmer's professional career that he'll be more balanced this year, except that if there was ANY game Coach Rose would give Jimmer the unconditional GREEN LIGHT, it'd be THIS ONE!!! Props to you, kitic, that's a great line you called. I really can't decide. :evil:

craigoscarsonTo score over your average against a top 100 team (Vermont is a perrenial tourney team) would be nice, to score 40 would be legendary... I'd love to see it but if we're talking percentages, the over is a very very bad bet. Doable? yep Likely? no
I would guess the Vegas line would be 27-28 and they'd hypothetically get rich off the homers on this board; if we really gambled...

GolfDiveNCougsI dunno, Craig, I hear where you're coming from, but the environmental factor would cause me to add more than just 5 points to last year's average to set the line. He made it over 30 eight times last year, and he'd have incentive and permission to take any shot he thought he had any chance of making. Vermont IS a better-than-average team, but we'd still be favored to win, and he'll want to give the home crowd what they came to see. Maybe 40 is too high, but I'd be surprised if he didn't easily clear 30.

30 is reasonable to expect but would anyone be surprised if it were only 25 (still above his avg) and he got his teammates involved, had an off night, came out of the game early for an ovation etc. etc. the fact is that 40 1/2 is an extremely high over and I'm not sure MJ got many of those "over lines" in his career. (except when he played the Jazz)... Vegas would not go near 40.5 for any college player playing Vermont at a "semi-neutral" court next year... In fact I don't think I've ever seen an over/under for a college player at 40.5 even when the player is up against Utah or some other pathetic team.
41 is not impossible... it's just not 50/50 which is where the Vegas line is drawn

This is your classic blank-check, house-money type of game. The game is happening because of Jimmer, for Jimmer, to celebrate Jimmer. NBA be damned, this is Jimmer's night go all offense all the time, the rest of the season can be spent honing Jimmer's defensive skill in preparation for the league, Dec. 8 is the night, more than any other night of his career, for Jimmer to be as greedy, flashy, etc. as he wants. Unless Vermont sells out and triple teams him (and I don't think they will) Jimmer's going to have 40 shortly after halftime.

I know 40 1/2 is a ton of points. But for the reasons Berlin gave are the same reasons I set it so high. That game is all about Jimmer. If Vegas were to set a line on it, my guess is it would be around 26 or 27. They may give him 5-6 points for playing at home, but prob wouldn't give him 19. I just really think Jimmer will play the whole game or close to it and have a green light to shoot whenever he wants.
Thankfully, I think Jimmer will also realize to be a team guy and make sure they still come away with the W. One thing that would really help his NBA stock is leading his deep into the tourney. Showing leadership that he can take a team on his back, and take it far. And the easiest way to make a deep run is to have a high seed and an easier path. You get that by tearing through the regular season. If BYU hadn't lost to UNM both times, they'd have been the three seed.

urronerLike it's been said, the game is all about Jimmer. The people are there to see Jimmer. They will be chanting his name all night long and every time he scores, the crowd will erupt. It's time for Jimmer to display his shooting skills. Defensive skills are great, shoot, even passing skills might be necessary, but for that night, it's all about Jimmer and his love affair with the basket. If he scores 50, the crowd will go crazy, as I will. If the game ain't close, I hope that it'll be a "funnel the ball in to Jimmer" fest. I hope he plays unconscious the whole night.

SpiffCougOf course, the other side of that is, because the game is all about Jimmer, he's going to be pressing to hard and he'll have a very un-Jimmer-like game and play more like Allen Iverson and go 5-31 from the floor.

SpiffCougYeah, it's a much better way to live. The two recent games I can think of where Jimmer struggled shooting were Arizona St and Utah St. He had never been in an environment like USU so he may have been a bit uncomfortable. Playing back at home in Glens Falls there won't be that unknown factor. I have a hard time seeing Jimmer not playing well.

1. The actual ticket prices
2. The scalper prices
While this is hardly BYU OKlahoma in Dallas (our tickets were $150 each there and worth every penny) this is a small civic arena they're going to be playing in to watch the hometown boy. I would not be shocked if the avg starting ticket price wasn't $40 and scalpers end up flipping prime seats for $200-300.
Considering it's BYU v Vermont in middle of nowhere upstate NY, those will be some lofty prices if you want to see that game; no doubt it'll be worth it, but a tough ticket to get your hands on just the same.
