Quick analysis on how the schools did today in the draft given their position in the top 25.

Florida is the biggest winner with 9 draftees taken.

1 Alabama (60) National Champion - 6 players taken

2 Texas 13-1 6 players taken

3 Florida 13-1 9 players taken

4 Boise State 14-0 1 player taken

5 Ohio State 11-2 1 player taken

6 TCU 12-1 3 players taken

7 Iowa 11-2 6 players taken

8 Cincinnati 12-1 2 players taken

9 Penn State 11-2 5 players taken

10 Virginia Tech 10-3 5 players taken

11 Oregon 10-3 3 players taken

12 Brigham Young 11-2 1 player taken

13 Georgia Tech 11-3 4 players taken

14 Nebraska 10-4 3 players taken

15 Pittsburgh 10-3 1 player taken

16 Wisconsin 10-3 2 players taken

17 LSU 9-4 6 players taken

18 Utah 10-3 6 players taken

19 Miami (FL) 9-4 3 players taken

20 Mississippi 9-4 4 players taken

21 Texas Tech 9-4 1 player taken

22 USC 9-4 7 players taken

23 Central Michigan 12-2 2 players taken

24 Clemson 9-5 4 players taken

25 West Virginia 9-4 0 players taken

Notable non-top 25 exceptions (aka doing LESS with MORE awards...)

Oklahoma 7 players taken,

Tennessee - 6 players taken

USF = 4 players taken

Notre Dame - 4 players taken

Assumptions (try not to laugh) :

1) Pollsters are unbiased and accurately choose the best 25 football teams.

2) NFL scouts are accurate judges of professional football prowess

3) NFL teams choose the best players for their teams

4) the more NFL players on a college team, the more successful it should therefore be.

5) None of the underclassmen on these college teams are better than those drafted.

HUGE, Gigantic, MEGA assumptions. I know.

That being said,

The doing MORE with LESS awards go to:

1st Place - West Virginia - Top 25 team NO NFL TALENT!

2nd place - Boise St - 1 NFL-er, Top 5 finish,

3rd place - The Ohio State, top 5 finish, two losses, only one lost to the NFL.

and 4th place - Our very own BYU, 2 very big losses, only 1 apparent NFL caliber talent.

Interesting stats CC, I thought at first BSU would be the 1st place team, but then they do play in the WAC and TCU blew the game against BSU. Further, BSU's player was drafted in the 1st round and is a CB, which is the most significant position on defense to me. So I agree with you that WVA should be in 1st on your list.

I am shocked that the OSU only had one player picked this season. Usually they have 5-8 go year in year out. They are an NFL farm team.

However, your last assumption is patently wrong since the NFL forbids players entering the draft until after their 3d year in college.

Doesn't BSU have the other 20 starters back, or they at least have 20 of their top 25 players back.

Ohio State was a very young team last year, and some of their draftable players stayed in school for their Sr year.

Assumption #5 is the where it crumbles a little, like big10country pointed out. BSU basically returns everybody BUT Kyle Wilson this year. OSU was pretty green too.

BYU is impressive (or sad, depending on your view). One person taken in a year where we lost a LOT of talent.

i probably meant non- seniors but even then it's not right to think that seniors are 100% responsible for the success of a team. This little analysis assumes they are.

It also made me feel better that we weren't the only top 25 team to have so few taken. Better to be in the top 25 and have little talent than be in the OU or Tenessee side where you have loads and STILL can't win a game.

I will still be bitter about utahs six draftees for a while though.

I think it just shows that BYU still has a little ways to go with its overall talent development and recruiting. I think BYU has made greats strides the last 2 classes to do just that, and the results will be seen in the next 3-4 years in the draft. Obviously, it also shows that the BYU coaching is maximizing the way the talent is used on the field as well. BYU needs to upgrade its speed, and has done just that. Looking at the Utah recruiting success the last 2 years, it is speed that stands out. And we beat those guys 3 out of the last 5 years, so I like that trend. Utah has had a great decade. we need to step it up and I think the coaches are doing just that.

Going by the draft, the two best teams in the nation last year were:

1- Oklahoma (highest picks)

2- Florida (most picks)

Neither of which played in the national championship game.

Yeah, but is it really fair to count Gresham or Bradford? Didn't they essentially miss the entire year, so it's not like OU had two of their top payers helping them out any is it?

When you have three of the top four players taken in the draft you definitely underperformed by not being ranked the prior year regardless of injuries.

??? When one of them (Gresham) didn't play the entire season, and another played less than two full games? You can't honestly be that presumptuous, can you? Players who basically never step on the field determine how well a team should perform?

Oklahoma State should've done better then, because they had Dez Bryant. And watch out for BYU next season with Uona Kaveinga playing ILB on the sidelines all season long.

Gresham isn't included in the players who were taken 1, 3, and 4 in the draft. Take Bradford and Gresham out of the equation; OU had 7 players PLAYING last year who were drafted. I'm sorry, but if you can't win with that kind of talent you are doing something wrong.

Did they have 7 "playng" players drafted or 7 overall (making it 5) players drafted?

Mixing them up with Florida. 5 playing players in the NFL is still too good to suck without bad coaching. If Kwitt can figure out how to be ranked with 6 draftees then why can't OU. At least we beat both of them with our 1 draftee.

Yeah, well we beat Utah too, who had 6 players drafted.

And as for OU, they had the worst O-line in the NCAA last year. We beat them because of that. We only scored 14 points after all. Look at their other scores and their D was awesome in some games they lost. Like to Texas an Nebraska. It was offense that caused OU problems, and their 2 best offensive weapons were out all year. I'm not saying we were lucky to win because their O-line cost them all year, not just v. us. Just saying it was like the Crowton years. The talent was on the field, but the results still stunk.

Utah State had a player go as a free agent. Weber State had a draft pick (that's as many as BYU) and two free agents.

Even more surprising- Florida's State's terrible defense sent 3 players to the NFL in the draft: a LB, a CB, and a safety...

You can have the best 5 players in the country on your defense, but if the other 6 aren't doing their job, you have 6 holes in your defense. Just sayin.

That's why everyone tried to throw on Brian "the short guy" Logan. Good thing he's awesome.
