Why is the MWC so quiet???

With all this garbage being spewed by Ute fans, blogs, and media about the PAC. Why isn't the MWC being proactive??? If they are... Why aren't they speaking???



The MWC would take a serious hit if Utah bolted for greener pastures. I would think it would be more appealling to Utah to stay if we could become a BCS conference(odds are, that's why they're thinking about it). The only way we could become a BCS conference is IF we pass this four year test. Then we absolutely will, but why not add Boise St. to the mix???



If we had a Championship game... THEN that's even more appealing for the BCS wankers to add us. Not only that... I would think each school's A.D.s and presidents would be speaking up during all this hogwash.

If Craig Thompson makes a noise on the Mtn is he still irrelevant to the national media?

It is not Craig Thompson that is irrelevant, it is the MWC, which includes BYU. Face it, we are far down the pecking order as a conference because the bottom feeders bring nothing, and the conference commissioner can do nothing about this. Makes me laugh when he gets blamed for things when it is the university presidents at the 6 worst teams in conference that dictate what he does. Tom Holmoe and Chris Hill have both said as much. If you want to place blame, it goes to te hUniversity Presidents and AD's at Wyoming, SDSU, UNLV, UNM, AFA, and CSU. They tell the commissioner what to do and they have more votes than BYU, Utah and TCU. So Basically, blame BYU and Utah for not getting more say in conference matters when they helped form the MWC. That is the fact of the matter.



Fact is, the MWC gets a trickle down affect, and nothing Craig Thompson Can do. He can't stop Utah from leaving the MWC if they want to, can only make plans to see what happens should they leave. I suspect that a back-up plan is in place to invite Boise State should Utah leave. And should TCU then go Big 12, to add Nevada or Fresno State, or both. But no reason to talk about it now when no one knows exactly how the dominoes will fall. Silence is wisdom in this case if you ask me.

Now Thompson can't do anything about it. This whole T.V. Deal has screwed with our conference. To this date... Even our own fans can't watch their team.



I will still blame him. I know he was taking a chance by doing this t.v. deal, but he did it with schools that don't have a good t.v. market. He rolled the dice and some of us are still fighting to watch our team play.



If that's not bad enough... The whole nation can't see us. If they do... Its post season or when we play OU.

Again, he did as the University presidents, who employ him, told him to do. Blame the bottom 6 teams for our predicament. It really does fall on them. If Utah jumps ship, BYU needs to leverage its position should it stay in the MWC and get a larger revenue share, and more say in the TV deals moving forward. If the other schools say no, tell them you are going independent, and see how they fare with no marquee team to profit off of. No BYU= worse than the WAC and C-USA. BYU needs to throw its weight around. Texas did in the Big 12, and they have a sweetheart deal there, which is why they will not leave that conference.

Can we also blame to bottom 6 for Craig Thompson's haircut? I think him and Todd Christiansen to the same barber.

But basically, this is the important part, it is not an equal share:

1. Texas: $10.2 million

2. Oklahoma: $9.8 million

3. Kansas: $9.24 million

4. Texas A&M: $9.22 million

5. Nebraska: $9.1 million

6. Missouri: $8.4 million

7. Texas Tech: $8.23 million

8. Kansas State: $8.21 million

9. Oklahoma State: $8.1 million

10. Colorado: $8.0 million

11. Iowa State: $7.4 million

12. Baylor: $7.1 million



Half of the TV money is divided evenly. The other half goes into an appearance pool. The schools that earn the most money are the ones who appear for football TV games and basketball nonconference games. Credits also are issued for NCAA tournament appearances.

You can watch BYU football in California, Texas, Florida, and Maine. More games than ever before in BYU's history, across not only football and basketball but many others sports as well. You're opinion here is kind of like hanging a sign around your neck that says "too lazy or stupid to watch my favorite team".

I'll raise the BS flag on this one. Anyone with DirecTV and enough coin can get the Mtn. Just because you don't want to shell out for the money for the programming does not mean the programming is not available.



I will agree with you, however, that the limiting factor in the TV deal is the fact that most teams in the conference do not have a wide TV appeal.

Has anyone heard any news/rumors of dish adding The mtn. I ask because a friend of mine who has some connections to BYU told me. I'm not saying he has great connections, just better connected than me. Anyone on here heard anything?

I have no connections but maybe Dish is tired of losing customers to Directv. I got Directv this year and I get most of the games on it or KBYU or on the internet. I had my best year watching BYU.

Craig Thompson isn't so much irrelevant as he is sheepish. I always get this feeling that he's just happy with "the way things are." Very passive. The MWC's status is improving (I guess), but it's still not going anywhere. The teams are the ones stepping it up, not the leadership. Our publicity still sucks, and our tv contract is unspeakably pathetic. It's almost like he just stands back and waits to see what will happen. It was golden when he talked about how the MWC had plans for action if Utah and/or BYU/TCU left the MWC. Yeah right. The MWC would be screwed, no matter how you cut it. It's act now or parish.

Besides, I demand that someone show me a year that BYU ever had a better TV deal. Whatever season you chose will have less TV money, less national game exposure, and less overall sports than right now.



Thompson was cutting edge when he went with the Mtn. He was cutting edge when he introduced ref review. He was cutting edge when he prompted the addition of TCU. And now that we're getting HD, there ain't a lot left to whine about.
