Fast Defenses has been the ONLY missing piece to BYU. If BYU has a fast Defense we are equal to TCU and equal/above Utah EVERY year. If this guy is like Chambers in attitude and plays like Brian Logan, BYU, after nearly a decade will be able to play more islands and cover more field than ever before. This frees up LBs to get pressure and not have to cover super fast WRs. I can't wait.

I can't read this article... Anyone feel like sharing/mention what it says???

Bradley won't be moving. And Everett has three to play two so between him, Eason and Aguirre, at least one if not two of them are going to be redshirting. This will definitely help us absorb the hit we'll take in the defensive backfield though when we lose Logan, Bradley, Rich (and possibly Aguirre). We'll still have Thomas, Uale, Galea'i, Buckner, Eason, Everett, Johnson, Comer (back in '11), Bills (back in '12), Bateman (back in '12), maybe possible Nicholson somewhere in there. There still might be one more Juco kid we bring in time for fall.

"BYU has received a football commitment from DeQuan Everett, a 6-foot-2, 198-pound cornerback from Cerritos Junior College in California. Everett had several offers out of high school but failed to qualify for a Division I program academically. He also had offers from Southern Miss and New Mexico."

"Coaches received a cornerback commitment from someone that may help further call for a switch in coverage tendencies in the near future. It’s been no secret of how much the caliber of play BYU has received at the cornerback position since last season and with this key junior college commitment, that trend looks to continue."

Dude looks hardcore. Hopefully he can keep his grades up at BYU. That's not easy to do, especially as an upperclassman.

If I remember correctly, he's the same size as Rich. I don't know what the "insider" article said, but what about moving him to safety? His speed would be helpful there as well.

I love seeing BYU go after JC corners. The best BYU teams of he past had JC transfer corners. The strategy worked then and is working now. I love it.

Love his size, love his speed. Love it. LOVE IT. Great recruiting!

It's not likely apparently. He's got lock-down coverage abilities and may not even be tried at the BCB. He's a FCB all the way. They certainly could try him elsewhere or even cross train him but his real strength is shutting down the pass. If you look at his stats, they don't look all that impressive, which considering his past and present offers, leads me to believe that teams just don't throw to his side of the field much at all.

Not to be disagreeable, but I think its easier to get better grades as an upper classman. Call it maturation, taking classes that are in your wheelhouse, or just not having to compete with 1000 other kids for the high grade in ECON 110. My upperclass grades were much better. But that's just my experience.

Just wanted to point out his size again. He is a HUGE corner. So is Bradley. If he has cover skills, that is really rare for his size. Sean Smith, who played at Utah, is about the same size(Smith is 6'3"), and he is the 2nd tallest corner in the NFL. Even NFL corners tend to be around 6' tall. Love the depth we are getting at this position. Love the fact it could allow us to play man on the outsides and really be aggressive with the 3-4 inside. Just how Bronco really likes it.

My experience was the opposite, I transfered to BYU from BSU as an upperclassman, when I arrived at BYU my GPA was 3.7, when I graduated, it was 3.06, which makes my grades at BYU nothing to be proud of....

9 of my last 13 letter grades are As--none are generals other than a couple religions.

9 of my first 13 letter grades are B's--all are generals that are pretty much evil.

In my undergrad program the first 2 years were full of weeder classes and a LOT of students got weeded. Big class sizes, tough tests, tons of homework. The last two years of my undergrad were full of classes that were more specialized, had fewer students and, generally, higher grades.

But don't get me started on (a very few) religion professors that try to make a point about religion being a real department at the university.

That's like saying transferring from Jr. High (BSU) to Harvard (BYU) is hard...

I had a 3.8 GPA after two years at SLCC. After finishing my BS at :utard: my GPA dropped to 3.2. (I blame Kyle Whittingham for my bad grades at :utard: )

The class I took at :utard: that actually has been the most useful in my career is Golf...

My experience was more like yours. My major classes were much more interesting to me, and seemed to fit in my wheelhouse much better than Econ 110, Biology, etc. The generals hurt a bit.

ESPN had a quick report on this kid, with Bronco comments. DeQuan is 4.42 fast, per the article. Can you say awesome pick-up? Loved his size before, and assumed he was speedy, but 4.42 is amazing. Can you imagine us playing man on the outsides? LOVE IT!

Shiloah who? Our secondary should be solid even after losing this tremendous senior class next year. The JUCOs have always been a godsend for good BYU teams. (when's the last non transfer, non walkon, non juco corner started for us?)

Why can't our JUCO linebacker recruiting be as successful?
