The six BCS confrences seperating themselves from the NCAA?

This article is about the University of Kansas' Athletic Director Lew Perkins and it states,

was asked about the BCS, which Perkins said he supports. That wasn't necessarily a surprise, but what he said next might have been. Perkins predicted the conferences that now make up the BCS would split off from the NCAA.



"At some time, the six major conferences are going to have their own quasi-NCAA," he said. "They're going to do their own thing."



He didn't think this was imminent, but was confident in it.



"It's gonna happen," he said. "I hear a lot of college presidents talking about those kinds of things.

A quasi-NCAA... Damn these fools can't get enough money. There's no way this could even work. It's gotta be totally illegal to do!

I'm sure there will be lawyers all over this kind of change. Can't imagine why it wouldn't be legal. The NCAA is a private institution. This would be like a company going private after trading on the NYSE for decades.



Also, there has been talk that if the NCAA didn't do something about half its conferences being excluded from the BCS that the non-AQ conferences could put together an NIT type alternative.



Doesn't make it good, but can't see it being illegal.

If they pull out of the NCAA it'd have to be in all sports. I can't imagine the NCAA would let them pull their football money out of the NCAA and foot the NCAA with the bill for all the other non-revenue sports.

No way they pull out of the NCAA and start their own league. It just will not work for them in all sports. And if they do, I hope the remaining NCAA teams stick it to them with scheduling and tell them all to go to hell. Let's just say that the BCS would become an even bigger source of hatred nationally if football is the reason this goes down like that. I think the NCAA needs to step in now and take this mess over, instead of letting the idiots run the asylum. In football, the idiots absolutely run the asylum.
