Most Classless MWC School

Next, I've spent a large part of my shift watching highlights of inter-conference games and have noticed a few things.

TCU only had a couple sold out games, but the highlights of the fans show some nasty aggressive behavior, they don't have real fan support, but they looked nasty on the sold out games I saw. I still doubt they have the least class.

New Mexico has become a hated school, over 1.5 million viewers have seen the Liz Lambert (still on roster) attacks, and the football coach assaulted his employee, sexually harassed (accusation) a secretary 3 months into the job, and the basketball coach even had some regrettable words for a Y player. As of now I've got it in this order:



1-Utah: Henderson, Boylen, Kryle (granted 2 will be gone shortly, but all 3 have the face that you can't help but want to hit with a metallic object)

2-New Mexico: quickly becoming the new thug school (you'd think "cherry" would have a calming effect)

3-UNLV: reeeeeebeeeeeels, tons of metro guys in tight shirts rushing their home neutral court, beating up pregnant women...that's UNLV.

4-SDSU: Non-existant in most men's sports, but b-ball fans would have been in big trouble had they dressed up in anything catholic, jewish, conservative, anti-gay, patriotic, etc...(I thought it was funny though, especially since we beat them)

5-Wyoming: No reports of urinating on players lately, but including women's sports it's the highlight of people's month's...it could get ugly fast.



6-9 TCU, AFA (blocking), CSU, BYU

If you ask every other school in the MWC, it is BYU. And it is because we beat them. Often.

It may be the MWC itself. They try to hide their bias, except for baseball they've aired or repeated TCU games 20 times and have yet to show BYU baseball once.



TCU is really good, but so are many schools in different sports. TCU in baseball owns the network, and they don't try and hide it.

Actually, the survey they did last year had us as the second classiest fans, only behind AFA.

This may not go over big with you my fellow CC members and friends I've never met, but whenever discussions like this come up I feel like by virtue of the discussion we show less class. Kind of like having conversations about our humility levels...Just saying.

Humility happens to be my best trait. :D

I go for Wyoming. Sports Illustrated did a survey of the all the FBS conferences last season, and one of the questions was "Most classy/least classy fans." Both BYU and Utah were near the top, but I think that's attributable to the mutual rivalry and comparative success compared to the rest of the conference. (Success sometimes = envy.) But Wyoming was #1 in the classless category, if I remember correctly. More than half the teams in the conference in their top #3. (BYU fans put them at #1 over UTAH, and Utah had them TIED with BYU.)

Which indicates to me that despite little outstanding success, no recognizable in-conference mega-rival (I'm not counting CSU), and being a middle-of-nowhere school with a modest-sized stadium, PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE CONFERENCE felt that they were the least classy. That's almost impressive.

If you notice, Air Force and BYU were either 1st or 2nd in the "Most Polite Fans" survey for every school in the conference except Utah, they had us as 3rd behind SD State.

We were also considered the biggest rival by 5 of the 9 schools.

Noticed that. If you follow with the assumption that fan perception = team perception, that's gotta be hard. Looking at the WAC survey, it's the same thing. BSU fans always make the argument that every in-conference opponent gives them "their best game;" BYU could justifiably make make the same argument in a conference in EXPONENTIALLY stronger conference.



[Another aside: looking at the other conferences, you could form a pretty good "All-Star classless" squad from all of the other conferences.



Pac-10: Oregon (LITERALLY EVERY TEAM has them in their top three. Three of them have them as #1, almost every other team has them at #2 behind their rival.)



Big East: WVU (not only widely recognized as a classless fanbase, but it seems like every notable Big East team considers them a main rival. Bad combo.)



ACC: Split between Miami (for the southern/FLA region) and Maryland (everyone else). Miami I get (if you've seen "The U" documentary), Maryland I don't.



Big-12: Strangely devoid of a unanimous pick.



Big 10: Ohio State.



WAC: BSU. (No real consensus among teams, but way lopsided on the overall percentage.)



(I feel like these last two are key signs of a "one team carries the load/everyone else is jealous" conference, but at least the Big 10 had a good year this year and great years in the past. OSU fans might be THAT bad.)



EDIT: It looks like a lot of WAC teams HATE Fresno State's fans, moreso than BSU.



SEC: LSU. (Surprisingly unanimous.)



Add Wyoming, and you have the Conference from Hell.]
