Mystery linebacker

TBS has a story about the linebackers getting a boost from Kaveinga and Aveni Leung-Wai and then says something about a linebacker that missed the beginning of spring but now is "firmly in the mix". Anyone have an idea of who this mystery linebacker is?

Brandon Ogletree. He had surgery during the offseason after playing hurt the second half of last season and is just now getting back into the mix this spring. You can write him in as a starter right now. This kid is one nasty fella that's is going to put a hurtin' on a lot of folks this year.

Thanks. I'd read some good things about Ogletree recently so I wondered if that might be who the article was referring to. I remember him making some good special teams plays last year and was excited about him putting put in the middle of the hurricane this upcoming year.

I don't know a thing about Ogletree, so my questions may sound clueless. Who the heck is this guy that you say is "one nasty fella"??? I'm just very intrigued.

Plus... I thought Kaveinga has to wait a year to play since he transfered from USC?

Kaveinga can't even play this year...he's the USC guy right? He'll be a great recruiter in telling future kids not to listen to SC bull crap.

Can't he change his name, Ogletree just doesn't sound like a tough linebacker name. ;) It sounds more like a store my wife would shop at. But, I guess if he has to hit harder to make up for it, then it works out ok for us.

I thought Ogletree was that freshman chick that plays center for the Baylor women's basketball team.

Oh....wait, the wife just corrected me. Not Ogletree, but Ogretree.

The dude was knocking guys out on special teams last year before he was injured. if you notice he was getting double teams on kick offs because he is such a beast. i am very optimistic about this guy. he loves to hit and is very mean when he steps on the field.

Ogletree got some limited playing time last year as a back up to Bauman I think. Had 5 tackles in the FSU game. Not a real big kid, but plays downhill. I expect he starts in the position that Bauman or Hooks started in last year. Might see Zac Stout in the other spot. Those 2 guys will be a big speed upgrade for that position from last year.

Is he allowed to recruit since he's not technically under scholarship?

As long as they get the kids to come to campus to visit, he can tell them his opinion of SC.

Stout will play inside as well. It is a 3-4. I expect that they might play together since we will need one guy to be the experienced play caller, with Pendleton on the outside, along with Van Noy/Frazier on the other side. That gives us some great speed at that position. Best since 2006. And that unit was really good together.

I don't care if his name is pretty pretty princess if he can hit and defend well.

No one makes fun of a guy who can KILL you. Just look at Mike Tyson's wussy voice. I mean..MANly voice. VERY manly.

Yes, without question. Ogletree will be one of the starters. Stout still may wind up in the other spot but he's got to overtake Leung-Wai, Hunter or Atkinson if they move him to middle. The way it sounds like Frazier is playing of late, I think he could be another solid option for us backing up either Pendleton or Van Noy (who I think will start by the time the season rolls around. Like I say, Stout is talented but he's not going to jump Ogletree. If he were here this spring, I think he'd have had a great chance of locking up the other starting middle linebacker spot but since he's not, he's going to have to really bust it in fall camp. I don't think there's any question that he'll be in the two deep this year though and get significant minutes, if not start later in the season. I just don't see it happening right off the bat.
