We will beat TCU this year

Yes we are reloading, yes they seem to have our number, yes they have many of their key experienced players returning and those that are not are being replaced by those on their two deep last year who seem just as impressive as the starters they are replacing, but we are due and we are going to come out hungry and prepared for that game!! Here is to Bronco working some magic in preparation for that game.

The three games that matter most to me next year are washington, utah, and tcu. I hope we go AT LEAST 2 and 3 in those.

Beating Washington would be huge. Beating Utah is always a must and would really cement the developing stats that show we own them as of late. Beating TCU would just be sweet and redeem bronco from all the criticism he has taken regarding TCU having our number.

So let me get this straight. TCU has this

not sure if I'd bet "bronco magic" versus "experienced players returning that were just as impressive as Jerry Hughes" as well as the fact that it's at their house AND they have our number.

Of course, Bronco has won their before - but I still think this is not our game to win this year.

We have a new team this year. Patterson won't have as much to go off of. I imagine Bronco will spend some extra time prepping for this game and when he takes his time to prep he does well. I am going with bronco magic and the fact that our offense by the time we play them will be clicking and have enough different looks that they wont be as well prepared for us. third game is the charm here. its hard to beat good teams three times in a row. have some faith baby. i am not usually that person, but i am just going out on a limb this year. its our year to beat them.

tcu had max's number. we have new starters on offense. tcu's offense has played very well against us as well. they get up for that game. this year their focus is on utah becuase they always suck against them. i am telling you, its just our year.

The thing that gives me the most doubt? This game will be on Versus. There's a two year curse that will have to be broken against AFA before I even start thinking we might have a chance at TCU. Fortunately, I think that will happen but as for TCU... I still think that it will be the toughest game on our schedule... Tougher than FSU or Yewtah. Playing them on the road won't make it any easier, unless their fans have jumped off the bandwagon after the flop against the Broncos (not an unreasonable prediction).

It doesn't really matter if their fans have jumped off the bandwagon, it'll be a difference between 14 or 17 people in the stadium...

If I could only choose one game to win all year it would be Utah. This game is second on the list and would do more for our ranking etc. Third is Washington, fourth is Fla State.

Good list, and I agree with Utah at the top. They are the four we have the greatest likelihood of losing. Splitting them and running the rest would make for an unexpectedly awesome year. 9-3 or 8-4 looks more likely, however.

I just don't see it. I hope you're right, though, because I'll be at that game.

Crap! I didn't know it was on versus. That changes everything. Seriously. Versus is bad.

Looking at the schedule rationally, and with the strong likelihood of either a freshman or an inexperienced sophmore QB at the helm this year,an 8-4 or even 7-5 season is a real possibility if not probability IMO.UW will be coming into this game very hungry and pretty confident, with a very good mobile QB,who may make Christian Ponder look slow.We all know how we usually fare vs. mobile QBs.Then there's FSU at their place, always very tough even with experienced QB,and then TCU in Fort Worth? the odds are against us winning yet again AT Utah, although by the time this game rolls around Heaps will no longer be a freshman in reality. We could and may drop one vs. CSU or AF or SDSU.I think people really need to temper their enthusiasm this year, or they may be very frustrated.Down the road this is going to be a very good team, probably some of our best ever, but this year I think we'll experience growing pains.

I have to disagree - last time we played there in '08, I was there, and the place was packed and rocking. They may not get the fans out for all their games, but they do for the one with us, for sure. Attendance was officially 36,180, but seeing that it was a Thursday, that's not too bad. This isn't Wyoming we're talking about. They got more people to the Utah game last year than Utah got to the Holy War in 2008. I was pretty impressed by both the noise and the classiness (they were WAY better to us than yewts would have been) of their fans when I was there.

I hope your not referring to me. I said nothing about those other games. I think we will lose to washington and fsu this year. I am just saying that tcu is a marked game. we will win that game.

i expect us realistically to lose 4 games this year. i would be happy with that. more than that which is a possibility would be disappointing. i think by the end of the year though our offense will be clicking and our defense is somewhat of a question mark. if our qb situation ends up being better than expected and our tight ends step up, our offense could be great this year. our o line will be better. our receiving core will be better. our running back situation will be better. qb and tight end have tons of talent and if they adjust well to d1 play and get the basics down quick, we could be great offensively this year.

12-0 is always a possiblity until someone beats us. Bronco has exceeded expectations every year he has been here except one. I am not going to plan on an 8-4 or 7-5 season until someone forces it down our throats. Can we beat TCU in Fort Worth? I think so. Will we? I hope so.

And by the way, the odds are never against us winning AT Utah.   :D

Here is from an earlier posting:

I've been having this bad feeling every time one of our games is shown on Versus, now I know why: Here's our record in m-basketball and football:

2009/2010 basketball: 0-2

2008/2009 basketball: 0-1

2007/2008 basketball: 1-1 (win over s !)

2009 football: 0-2 (with a final 11-2 record...)

2008 football: 1-1 (UCLA win)

2007 football: 2-1 (Arizona and TCU win)

67% losing record over the last three years on Versus. Take just the last two years and Versus gives us a 85% losing record.... That means we're winning almost every game NOT shown on Versus...

Hmmm. Right now the 2009 BYU team was better than the 2010 will be. At least based on experience. We have a ton of talent coming in but I don't any way we beat TCU there. We struggled mightily in 2009 and this years TCU team will be better than 2009.

I like your thinking but I think you are nuts.

Sorry,we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.Hope you're right but don't htink so.As to us beating TCU with new QB in charge,it's always possible but currently they have better athletes at many positions and their team speed, unlike that of Oregon and OSU that we heard so much about in the past, has been a big difference maker between us and them, with Gary Patterson as the coach

Other than regarding Utah being favored against us this year, I didn't "disagree" with your post. I simply look at the season as an undefeated season until someone actually defeats us. Then I look at it as a one loss season until someone else actually defeats us. I never plan on BYU losing any game. If they lose that is a bad thing and we move on to the next winning opportunity.

That said, I will never acknowledge that Utah is better, more talented, more prepared or that they are more likely to win. BYU is always expected to beat Utah by 50 points. I don't mind if they only beat them by 20 or even 1 as long as they beat them and it is painful (like a last second pass, 4th and long, etc.), however, I always expect them to make them pay. That may not be realistic, however, I am a fan, not a realist. :munch: :munch: :munch: :munch: ;)

I really don't know why people are worried about UW. I don't think it will be a blowout but they are not that good. FSU and TCU are the two games I could see us losing and the matchup with the pukes is always a toss-up but I really don't think they'll be better than us at the end of the year. I'm predicting another 11-2 year with a bowl win.

Forget it. 7-5? 8-4? What, is Bronco the 2nd coming of Ron McBride?

Do tell me - what happened the last time we had a QB transition...and we lost our all-star TE and top receiver...and tons of defensive talent? Oh ya - 11-2 and undefeated in conference play. That's right.

And don't give me that crap about "Jake Heaps is a true freshman and Hall had some time in the program". That's b.s. Hall hadn't taken a real game SNAP in 3 FREAKING YEARS when he had his first start. And he spent over a year totally away from FOOTBALL. So how is that any better than a freshman QB who acts and carries himself like he's 24 not 18 who is just coming off of a high-level high school program?

I expect similar results to 2007, despite a tougher schedule.

Will the UW game be tough. Youbetcha. But we will win. Its at LES. And now we've got the defensive speed at LB to contain Locker's legs (stay eligible Van Noy), and we've got significantly better DBs than the last time we played them.

Will AFA give us trouble? No. We OWN AFA...(unless our coach is named Crowton)

Will FSU be tough? Yes. As of now, I'm assuming this is a loss, but I don't expect a beat down like they put on us in LES last year.

Will TCU be the toughest game of the year? No - FSU will be. Will the TCU game be close? Yes...I say 50/50 on that game.

Will :utard: be a tough game? No. We beat them by 20+. I mean, come on, its the :utard: .

Here's how our schedule will break down:

Automatic wins:

Wyoming

UNLV

New Mexico

CSU

Utah State

Tough Games That We Will Win:

San Diego State

Nevada

UW

AFA

Utah

50/50:

TCU

Probably a loss (fingers crossed that I am wrong):

FSU

Take THAT to the BANK.

The one caveat - if Nielsen is our starting QB, then all bets are off. Then you can take the UW game and chalk it up as a loss, and maybe even Utah and Nevada. And TCU will be a definite loss. Nielsen is NOT a BYU starting QB...so lets not try to pretend that he is.

I really don't have a rational answer to your overwhelmingly unanalytical post. You are a fan and have every right to your opinion, but just saying you're right because you're willing to shout louder than I am,doesn't make it so.Saying that we'll beat Utah by 20 points or better is plain silly, there is very rarely a game with the Utes which is decided by more than 7 points at most.I also disagree with your point that FSU is "tougher" game than TCU.How did you decide this?By what criterion?TCU was a game we were never in last year if you were watching, and they return a lot on both sides of the ball, whereas you can point to a lot of things we did well vs. FSU,and there were a couple of early plays which were big difference makers.Change that pick six where Pitta gets mugged, into a big gainer for us and maybe that game is very different in its final score. There were no such plays you can point to in the TCU game,we were completely dominated from start to finish by a superior team.By the way,Ron Mcbride was never our coach, but he was a pretty dang good coach for them. The one point I agree with you on is that you"re enthusiastic about Jake Heaps.I agree he's going to be a great one,but not right away...he's still a freshman and it will take even someone as talented as he is a few games to accomadate to the speed of the college game.I also don't expect Nelson{not "Nielsen" as you stated],to be the starter, and never have.
