Alright... So homeboy had to wait a year to sign his LOI because of a DUI. A stupid mistake on his end.



Spring practice is barely half way through and he's in trouble again, "Linebacker Kyle Van Noy did not practice Monday. Why? “Violation of a team rule that he needs to learn and understand,” Mendenhall said. “And so he will be gone until he understands that perfectly, and then he will be back. Could be a day, could be two days, [could be] some community service that will help remind him.”

What's up with this dude already been in trouble twice(that I know of) and he hasn't even played an official college game yet???

ksl cougar tracks was my source, he's not going to last at BYU if he keeps this up. Several other players have had similar bumps, but hopefully it's the last one we hear about.

Are you guys freaking kidding me? I'm not guaranteeing he'll make it all four years but give the kid a break. You don't even know what he did. He could have just missed a workout or something and may have even had a perfectly legitimate excuse. I seem to remember a time in the past where a player couldn't attend (for a good reason) and just because he didn't call to tell the coaches before the practice started, he was disciplined. The bottom line is he'll miss practice for a day or two and will be back. Hardly that big of a deal. What's more, this kid could have taken the easy road and rejected Bronco's "road to redemption" last year and gone to any number of BCS schools but he didn't. Just the fact that he's here today after sitting out a whole year means that we as fans ought to cut him some slack.

Lighten up. Bronco believes in Kyle Van Noy - or he wouldn't be @ the Y on a scholarship.

Have a little faith in Bronco. I would liken this to what I do w/ my kids: "Time out!" It's a quick reality check to drive home a point. I'm still a HUGE fan of Van Noy!!!

I don't like it. When you come into the program with a bit of a bad reputation you have to be twice as squeaky-clean as everybody else. If this were any other player I don't think I'd even bother worrying about it. It may not be fair, but perception is reality, especially when you are the 'flagbearer' for a university like BYU.

All I know is that this is not trending well for KVN. I am glad that Bronco is showing him some tough love though, and still on his case. This only will help Kyle in the long run--should he choose to accept the help. If not, then it is all on Kyle. I just hope Kyle has some good support around him to help him see things clearly. Hopefully those incoming guys are rallying around him and giving him some positive peer pressure that he choose to respond to.

IMO, the fact that he was already given some slack is all the more reason to be concerned about it. I think this is what Bronco has done. He's sending a quick emphatic reminder that1 1) he's already given KVN a second chance and 2) that KVN has already shown great commitment to himself and BYU by taking full advantage of that chance, but that this is no time to relax, relapse or fail to continue living up to expectations and commitments.



I also believe that because this isn't his first run-in w/ the HC, it does not bode well for either the present or his future at BYU.

Losing Kyle would be a HUGE deal for this season. our d relies on the mlb big time and losing him where we are already thin on experience and talent would be a big deal.



get it together kyle. we need you. you are already one of the fan favorites and you haven't even played a game yet. don't blow it.

Considering that Shiloah was simply...gone by the time his problem was publicly known, I wonder if Bronco is taking a lesson from that experience and trying to not let Kyle fail in similar fashion. That is to say, if he is keeping a closer watch on Kyle and also a tighter leash than he kept on Shiloah, then a little something like this might actually be expected. It really does depend on what it was--which we won't know at all if things go well, but will be overshadowed by something far worse before too long if things go poorly.



I agree with Johnny: HANG IN THEIR KYLE! WE WANT TO SEE YOU ON THE FIELD IN THE FALL!

Maybe I missed something. But where did anyone read/hear it was an HC violation? Bronco specifically said he broke a "team rule". Now that very well could be HC-related but why assume the worst?



It's just curious to me why some folks already assume the worst about some of our young talent because they may have had a misstep early on this semester. Do you think that they are supposed to instantly know and understand everything about the team and university immediately upon stepping foot on campus? Did you? I know I didn't and that there was a bit of a learning curve to figure everything out. Going to college is a big adjustment for any individual. No more parents enforcing the rules.



Another thing, KVN is not an MLB. He's an outside backer and specifically competing for the weakside spot.

True, true, true... this guy will be essential to our thin defense...

I do not think our defense is thin at all. I think it is inexperienced, but the young guys we have can really play. Our younger guys in the LB position are more highly recruited than the older guys. Same with the DL position. And we have the most depth in the secondary with skilled guys we might have had since 1996. By seasons end, I expect this unit to be really good. And next year to be a dominant group.

My read on this is that Van Noy made a minor mistake, but given his history, he gets to walk a finer line at BYU and Bronco was quick to jerk his chain the first time a red flag went up to send a message.



Van Noy is going to be a great asset to the Cougs, on and off the field.

I heard Chad Lewis wanted to be a coach and they wouldn't let him so Coach Mendenhall disciplined Van Noy to make a point . . . I can't reveal my source, but be assured this will all come to light in the fall . . . you heard it here first ;)

He got disciplined because we lost to FSU and we would have won, if he was here to play outside LB. Just making a point that we need him in there this year.

I agree w/ "gmj81" - I'd be willing to bet it was a team rule. Bronco is sending a message - a good jerk on the choke chain w/ a little love! I believe Kyle will respond. Look - he suffered through a year to get where he is now. He's committed & will impact the program in a positive way.
