K-State Coach

Could a complete and total hard-ass like Frank Martin ever 1) be hire by BYU and 2) be successful at BYU



Would BYU ever hire a guy who is win at all costs. A guy who is willing to be verbally and emotionally abusive in a manner he feels is necessary to squeeze every last drop of victory out of his players.



Thoughts?

1) not a chance

2) don't care



I can't stand the guy from what I have seen. Granted I have only seen him this year but from what I have seen he acts like a punk. If I remember correctly, I heard the commentators during the BYU game say Frank Martin didn't play college ball but was the team manager or something like that. If that is true, and I am too lazy to look it up, it sounds like someone is suffering from little mans syndrome. If it's not true than he is still suffering from little mans syndrome.

Why??? We got a great coach in Dave Rose who has made it clear he's not going anywhere.

I'm not trying to insinuate that BYU should be looking to replace Rose. I was just curious if anyone thought a guy like that would ever be hired by BYU and then be successful. I tend to think that he wouldn't be hired and that the type of player BYU recruits are not the kind who would respond to his type of coaching.

I understood what you were getting at and I do agree with you, someone like that would never be hired by BYU. The guy always looks pissed off and having a big chip on his shoulder, and that is even in his interviews with the media after his team has won! He just appears like he is looking for a fight with anybody. It would be cool to see him in an episode of Bully Beatdown. I would much rather have someone like Brad Stevens from Butler who is in complete contrast to Martin.

According to some ( :whistle: ) Bronco is more like K-State's coach than he is like Rose.

I think a football coach needs a little more Frank Martin then a basketball coach does. Even so, if Bronco has a little Martin in him he can at least turn it on and off. He's definitely nothing like Martin when it comes to dealing with the media and his sideline persona during games

Being in the KC area, and hearing what the radio and Kstate people have to say, apparently Frank Martin is very chill away from hoops (which seems bizarre); and it's why his players love him and play so hard for him on the court.



This is a polar opposite of say a Bobby Knight that often held his players in contempt and was worse with them behind the scenes.



Also, Kstate has a long history of great basketball but it was over 30 years ago and the fact that Bobby Huggins and Michael Beasly couldn't do what Frank Martin is doing with this young team = he can do whatever he wants right now. Throw in the fact that KU and Bill Self didnt' get this far and you can see why right now Frank Martin walks on water in the Kansas City area.



(it's easy to forget that KU won the national championship 2 years ago, KU deserves a little credit but isn't getting any around here right now)

We had one. His name was Frank Arnold, and he got us to the Elite 8. Them he got ran off. Never been to the Sweet 16 since. Just sayin.
