Those are indeed going to be three very good stories to watch play out this spring and summer.
In my opinion, not only is Kyle good enough to play in 2010, but we're going to need him! With the news that Grant Nelson is forgoing his senior season, we are going to be a little thin at LB, especially through spring camp. I'm counting on Van Noy to lock up the WOLB staring spot. And I think Ogletree will have secured the Mike before all is said and done and it will come down to either Atkinson or Leung-Wai for the Buck.
I'm really curious to see how Maslosi Te'o looks this spring as well as the continued progress of DiLuigi and Kariya. As good as I expect Quezada to be, I'd love to be able to redshirt him this first year. We've got a very deep stable of capable RBs. If Harvey is 100% healthy to start the season (unlike each of the past two seasons) and we see the kind of jump I expect to see from DiLuigi, then I expect the touches are going to be few. Kariya may move to a full time FB role. And Te'o was purported to be the most athletic guy of the bunch (at least prior to Quezada, I don't know about now). When you consider the other change-up type backs we could utilize like Falsev or Phillips, I just think it would be best for Josh to sit this first year out if at all possible, so we can save his eligibility and so he can learn the blocking schemes which are critical to this offense. BYU RBs have to prove they can do it all (run, catch and block) before they see much of the field. All that said, he might just be too good to keep off.
The other thing is we want to send Harvey off right. That means he's got to get at least 20 touches a game and average 4.5 ypc so that he can become only the 9th RB in FBS history to have four consecutive seasons with 1,000+ yards rushing. With another 1545 yards, he could eclipse 5000 yards rushing for his career and be on an even shorter list of RB greats. With another 415 more receiving yards Harvey would have a career count of 1500, which I seriously doubt any of the guys who have more rushing yards than him were anywhere close to touching. But I see that as much less likely give the gluttony of assorted great receivers we'll have.
Even if we go heavy on rushes (35 a game) that doesn't leave too many for any of the other RBs so Quezada's year would just be wasted. Again, unless we know for certain that Quezada is too good to not give at least 5-8 touches a a game, I say save him so we can maximize his years with us.
Now, if Vic can stay healthy, I'm so excited to see what he can do to opposing QBs. I think he'll tear them limb from limb. He's managed to pack on the weight to play DE but has still maintained his speed. With a breakout year, he could be a solid middle-round pick in next year's draft. But that's if he can stay healthy.
