ESPNs Synopsis of BYU

So when you fill out a bracket on ESPN you can click an arrow to see some info on the two teams that are matched up. BYU's says



"BYU is arguably the best shooting team in the country, led by junior guard Jimmer Fredette, who's had games of 49 and 45 points this season. The Cougars also do a nice job on the glass and forcing turnovers, but an athletic opponent with length could pose problems."



Really? We do? Last time I checked we are 67th in the nation and giving up O boards has killed us in some of our losses. Further proof that these people don't know anything about BYU



What was really cool though is that of all the 7 vs. 10 match-ups, we by FAR have the highest project win odds. 70.1%. The next closest 7 seed is at 51.2! Not even close. In face, we have a better % than ALL of the 6 seeds as well, and half of the 5 seeds.



This is great and all, but it does make me more nervous, because it looks as if everyone thinks we have no business losing this game. If we do, you can expect no respect for a LOOOONG time to come.

However, the potential award at the end of the 1st two games is a trip to salt lake (which would be the story of the dance at that point); so if we're going to make history and create some buzz, you better believe that this is a great draw for us (nothing would be better except a more favorable seed in the same west bracket) the problem is 5-12 games are almost a coinflip and this is what I think of the florida game; it's just going to come down to who plays the best and we know that the Cougs tend to tighten up in huge games...



If I were a betting man, I'd take Florida and the points...



This comes down to the fact that we didnt' beat UNM when we should have... win in Provo, we're a 3-4 and I feel better about getting that monkey off our backs. Right now, see this game as a push and I'm literally praying that our guys show up. Jimmer is going to get a ton of attention, others have to pick up the slack and make baskets or we're dead to rights.

your last point is right on. They are going to be keying in on jimmer like crazy. we need the other guys to step up and have big games. we also need jimmer to spread the ball around and not try and do it all himself like he did against unlv (my opinion). i wouldn't bet my own money on a cougar win here. Are they capable yes, should they win, yes, but watching them play unlv didn't make me feel very good about their chances. I just hope they win and then win the next game and end up in slc!

Since they will be keying on Jimmer, and he WILL have the ball in his hands, Jimmer needs to do a good job of creating for others. If he does, Florida will get torched. If Jimmer forces things too much, we lose. I just look at the end of the UNLV game where UNLV triple teamed Jimmer and he did not do a good job distributing to open shooters. That has to change. Hopefully Haws is back and the rest helped him get his legs back.

Jimmer always seems to "force things too much" and "we lose" when others are making shots. What needs to change is his teammantes making buckets.

That might be what they are talking about. The problem is that they haven't actually seen BYU play, they can only read about it online (or maybe that's my problem). :roll:

I have to be honest, I liked the BYU team that played the last 3 games of the regular season. More balanced and more exciting. I want that team to show up.

The good news is that BYU has rebounded from their losses by having a strong showing the following game. They should come out fired up after the UNLV loss and I expect them to put forth a better effort in the tourney than in previous years. Plus, this team seams more confident and able than past teams- I really think having Tav coming off the bench this year will help us in tournament play. We also need Jimmer to bring his "A" game and we should advance. I'm as ready as anyone to get this monkey off our back.

Maybe he was talking about the same glass as Sir Mix Alot???

The Cougs played stiff (til the 2nd OT) and we ended up on the right side of the coinflip for the 1st time in a while. The question is now, can we now play like we have nothing to lose and beat a very good Kstate team?



We're playing for history and a shot at Salt Lake....



I dont' see how the weekend goes badly though; I'm so relieved about winning the 1st game that it truly feels like gravy now. That could make us very dangerous if we can play loose and smart.



Here's to making history... I like our chances in Salt Lake if we get through here.
