BYU # 7 seed playing 10 florida

I was hoping for a 6, or at least playing in SLC, but the announcers first comment was how we struggle against good rebounding teams which FLorida apparently is not.



One guy at least picked us in that game.



sigh. a 7 seed. I wonder how many 29 win teams with a 7 seed there are.

This is actually really good. BYU can and should win the first game, and KState has been one of the most overrated teams all year. Plus, West Bracket. About as good as could have been hoped for.

agreed a 7 seed is garbage. What do we have to do, to get a higher seed. O well down go the gators bring it on.

I'm barely looking at Florida right now. Looks like they mostly lost to the good teams of the SEC and the A10, with some freak losses mixed in for good measure, and rest being wins. Know nothing about their playing style, though.

I'm starting to seriously buy into that +2 rule. If NM is a 3 seed, we should have been a five. Our loss to UNLV I think hurt. But it did give the MWC four teams.

There seems to be some level of disbelief among the pundits I'm following that Florida got in, much less as high as they did. Maybe we shouldn't feel so scorned.

Um.... not play like garbage in the MWC tourney. That, for starters.

FLorida is listed as one of the last 6 teams in the tournament, along with Utep and Utah State. How do you get to be one of the last 6 in at a 10 seed?



Apparently, they haven't danced for two years.

really BYU played bad in the MWC tourney, BYU lost to unlv on there home floor. If it was not for a phantom reach call, we win that game. BYU will beat florida

Florida won 3 games i believe on buzzer beaters, or they would be waiting for their NIT bid. Im not worried about this game. K-State will be a huge challenge though.

BYU will take down Florida. Florida is WAY overseeded in the bracket. On Bracket Matrix, only 13 of the 56 "expert" brackets even had Florida in the tournament, and the highest seed any of them gave Florida was an 11.



The team with the next least number of times in "expert" brackets is Minnesota - and they are in 47/56 brackets!



The committee will hear a lot of trash about including Florida, and BYU will be heavily favored. Let's hope BYU can bring it.

If you're asking legitimately (and I doubt you are, but just in case): Because at-large bids generally go to decent teams in the power conferences. So Florida is one of the last teams in at #10, while Montana, a conference champ from a weak conference, is "automatic lock" despite being (most likely appropriately) at #14. Most people would agree that Florida > Montana, so there you go.



If you're asking rhetorically, like, "How can a last team in still get a 10 instead of a 12-13?": I absolutely agree, and I think we should be grateful.

I'm still feeling very cautious about this matchup. The talking heads say that Florida isn't a very good rebounding conference, but going strictly by their season stats, they're really balanced. 5 players averaging double digits, 2 smalls, 3 bigs. And the rest of their team, while not showing up as much for scoring, is still big. Looks like they get a lot of scoring from young players tho, frosh and sophs, so hopefully inexperience for them will play into our favor.

I'm SUPER Happy with this :D

K State is tough, but not as bad as it could be. Definitely winnable. I've felt they are a bit overrated all year.

Nothing exciting in what I saw in our seeding. I would love to have one shot at the committee and have them answer how NM can be a #3 and BYU #7 and NM only won one additonal game (granted they beat us twice, but in very close games indicating there isn't a lot of difference between the two teams--at least not a difference of 4 seed spots).



Oh well, we just need to go out and win this first game. Problem is that even if we do win, we apparently have an opponent, that outside this Bracket Committee, doesn't have any respect, so we won't get any even if we do win.

When the new rankings come out, we'll still likely be a top 20 team and yet somehow we are a 7 seed? Look, I recognize that at some point BYU has just got to buck up and knock off somebody that they aren't "supposed to beat". I would have been pleased with a five seed given the situation and even OK with a six seed. But a 7 seven seed seems a little low for a 5-loss team, 2 of which came against a top ten team by less than 6 points combined, and a 3rd by 4 points to a team on their home floor scrapping to secure a tourney seed (with some generous help from the officials by the way). And how come the rules that get applied to some of the "BCS" teams like OSU don't get applied to BYU? "Oh, well, the Buckeyes were missing Evan Turner for a few games so despite their 7 losses, we'll still give them a 2 seed. Nevermind the fact that Jimmer has been battling mono for half the season, let's stick it to them for making us work around their no-Sunday-play rule."



On the bright side, if we do get passed Florida like we should and somehow manage to beat KState, we should be sitting pretty playing at the Huntsman Center strollin' down a yellow brick road to the final four. But for the love BYU, all I'm asking for is to beat a couple of teams in the tourney for once. And only one that would be considered an "upset".
