Selection Sunday Thoughts

1st MWC team in, UNLV as an 8 seed. Have they EVER gotten a BCS school as their 1st game matchup???

SDSU as an 11 seed, 1st game against Tenn in RI. I could see them win that game. Could be worse, the SEC is OVERRATED!!!

7 seed playing in OK City against Florida. Ugh. Don't like that matchup.

To say nothing of the fact that if we do manage the win, we'll be playing K State in their back yard.

Oh well, it's 5 hours, not 70 minutes like it was against Xavier in Kentucky, and we've at least got the 1st game on a neutral court...

3 seed for UNM. WOW. What might have been for us! (You know, 3 + 2 = 5 seed). They'll breeze through the 1st game, and they SHOULD beat Marquette as well.

I just want to sing a song to the tune of the Gilbert and Sullivan melody (Alone Again)

Gonna be a lot of upsets I think.

Murray State over Vanderbilt. You heard it here first.

I actually picked nearly all underdogs in the Midwest and West regionals, and felt good about every pick. I think there are going to be more than the usual upsets this year, the field is more balanced, several of the big names are not present, and if BYU can't beat a mediocre team like Florida, they don't deserve to be there...but I think BYU wins it.

Best potential second-round matchup: Kansas State-BYU. Forget the seeds (No. 2 vs. No. 7). These are two evenly matched teams -- the Cougars are actually ranked slightly higher (seventh) than the Wildcats (ninth) in Ken Pomeroy's ratings -- with a pair of high-scoring point guards, Denis Clemente and and Jimmer Fredette.

Put a solid defense behind a good point guard and it brews trouble for BYU.* Emery can only do so much.
