How does Rose get us ready to play well Thur?

What strategies, changes, moves do you make? Of course who want to look at the opponent too. Start Miles over Davies? Assume that Hawes will be ready to start.



Jimmer trying to take over the game makes the offense fall apart INHO. In the beginning of the year, the offense was really flowing. Have not seen that for awhile. Last night his teammates were getting in the way when he was trying to take it off the dribble.



Jimmer drieves can get some layups and fouls. If the refs are not calling it or he does it too much then we get a lot of turnovers. Lately I have not seen him do pullups and get good 10 foot shots. Also assists are down. UNLV was thowing 3 defenders on the drives. tough to find the open guy but maybe some plays could be put in.



Any defense wrinkles like may a 3-2 zone or 1-3-1 or box and one. I don't like the idea of doing something new in the tournament but it is a way to catch the opponent and try to speed up the game. We should be able to win an up and down court game. Now if he had been practicing it this year for this time we could pull it off.

I think Rose out thought himself against UNLV. He wins 29 games with pretty much the same starting line-up, and then changes it (I know Haws was out) because of who they were playing. During the few minutes Miles played, he was an effective defender. He helped spur the defense during their last run.



To win on Thursday, he must just do what he's done all year.

Step 1: Don't listen to Scott715.

Step 2: Wait to see who the opponent is before making ANY changes.

Step 3: Watch film on the opponent.

Step 4: Then begin thinking of strategies that may work.



Sorry, but you really don't know what you're talking about. The offense struggled later in the year? Didn't we score 202 points in consecutive games? Didn't we have a stretch before the most recent UNLV game of scoring 80 or more in 8 of 9 games? that sounds like an offense that is being disrupted by Jimmer to me.



Two nights ago, his teammates were missing shots, not getting in his way (Hartsock 1-4; Davies 1-3; JT 1-5; Emery 3-7;). How about they make some shots. How about they find ways to score like Jimmer does/did when teams are playing them tight?



Jimmer's assists are down? That's news to me. His last three games he has 5, 6 and 4 assists. He's averaging 4.7 apg, so he's actually be distributing the ball above average. And imagine if his teammates were making shots how many more he could have. In the first half of conference he had 28 assists. In the second half he had 34. And he had a game in each half where was either limited physically (UNLV 1st time) or in foul trouble (Utah 2nd time).



33 games into the season is not the time to be making drastic changes. I think we've been using the zone effectively all year. It's not like we've never used it. It won't be a defensive wrinkle. IMO, the box-and-one is a poor defense.



I say we wait to see who the opponent is. We go in with the same plan we've had that won us a school record number of games. If we meet up with a team similar to UNLV we need guys other and Jimmer to step up. He can't do it by himself. Guys like Emery and JT need to find ways to make shots. Guys like Noah and Davies need to find ways to make shots and play better defense. Guys like Abouo and Loyd need to find ways to be effective with their minutes.

I was thinking that two. I know Davies has been playing well. But I wonder if all the new starters threw everyone off just a bit. I was surprised to see Loyd and not Abouo start. But then we started out on fire offensively and so did UNLV, they just kept it up quite a bit longer than we did.

The zone is only effective if Abouo is in the game. Noah is way to slow to close on 3 point shooters. I agree with everyone do what you have done all year. I think that has gotten us in alot of trouble in years past, dance with the girl that brought you.

Amen, I've been saying it. Abouo has to be out there for defensive and rebounding purposes. Did you see the way he flew to the corner in the zone during that stretch where we came back vs. UNLV? He's the only one who can make the 2-3 work against a team that can shoot 3's. Haws and especially Hartsock are just too slow to rotate and often gamble on the penetration when it's not necessary, leaving the corner shooter wide open. Our zone can be shut down if we use the right personnel.

Davies is a gift offensively, but he makes so-so big-men look like Wilt Chamberlain when he attempts defense. We needed defense against UNLV, and Davies simply couldn't give it.

I agree kind of, he has had some moments (or even stretches of several minutes) of brilliance defensively IMO. I do agree his defense against UNLV was horrible. But all in all, I would say that sometimes he has overall games of okay defense, which although maybe a bit worse than Miles (I don't exactly consider him a defensive guru) is plenty made up for with his offense.



In short, if I were Rose and his defense was sucking, I'd yank him. But if Davies is having one of those games of okay defense, I'd leave him in.

Anyways...I hope Rose switches it up a bit against Florida. I'd actually start with man-to-man coverage and switch to a zone if needs be. I've never seen Florida play, but it looks like their forwards are their best shooters. Parson shoots 50% from the field and 37% from the 3-point line and Tyus shoots 51% from the field and 44% from the 3 point line. Both their guards shoot at around 35% from the field.



I'm worried if Florida is shooting well and we go up against them with a zone Florida will just keep swinging the ball around until they get the open look and we won't be able to rotate fast enough.

In analyising BYU you have to look at our games against sub 50 teams. We were perfect against +50 teams and made them look bad in doing so. Sub 50 were tight games and their superior athletes and defense interupted our offense. Coach needs to plan well and get some adjustments ready before it happens. I agree with continue what you have already been doing. Coach Wooden of UCLA always talked about playing their game and not changing for their opponents. But then he had the best teams so that should and did lead to winning championships. If we can learn from our losses and play better then this should be exacting.
