Jerry Palm - BYU borderline Top 25

CollegeRPI.com's Jerry Palm said in a mtn phone interview last night after BYU's victory over TCU that BYU is a "borderline top 25 team" and projected them as no better than a 6 seed. He states they have no good wins.

I guess the win over UTEP on the road wasn't a good win. Well we can change all that with wins over UNLV and then hopefully New Mexico. Someone needs to send this to coach Rose for some added motivation

Well Schmoe, I was going to question your grasp on reality, but then I realized that you are a lacrosse player, so I really need to cut you some slack...well, a lot of slack. ;)

His Eastern bias was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

In a year where the PAC10 is dreadful, the ACC is way down, the SEC is down, the Big 12 is down, sorry, but a #6 seed is crap. The Big East is the best conference by far, with perhaps the Big 10 next best thing year. And I think the MWC is in the mix after that. UNM should get a #2 or #3, and BYU a #4. UNLV a #7 and SDSU a #11. But what do I know.



Having said that, teams like Arizona State, Arizona, Weber State, Bradley, Nebraska have done BYU no favors this year. Wins that looked great at the time do not look as good right now, unfortunately. Really, only the UTEP and 2 SDSU wins, 1 v. UNLV stand out.



Have to beat UNLV tonight. Have to. Or that #6 is a possibility.

I follow you though process exactly. Seeing this year with no completely dominant #1 team and several major conferences down, to be talking about BYU as a #6 seed is asenine and shows total bias.



But with that said, then we do need to back up our talk with our walk. There is no further motivation needed by this Cougar team than to have lost the last 7-9 games to UNLV in vegas, to have lost twice to probably the best team we have played (NM) and have had Fredette and Emory dissed by missing out on the POY and D-POY honors. If those scenarios in themselves do not motivate this team to rise up and show that they can win this grade of games, then fine, banish us to a #6 seed, but my problem is that this bozo really has no firm foundation in light of what we see around us to punish BYU. If we would have squeaked by all of our lessor opponents this season, then you might have something, but we pulvarized just about everyone and it shows in our national stat rankings.

Lunardi now has BYU as a #6 as of this morning. Beating UNLV tonight is a MUST.
