...or have membership to a site that gives projected RPI that could tell us or take a good educated guess at what BYU's RPI would be if we beat TCU, UNLV, and then NM?

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to figure out what the actual percentage would be, based on TCU, UNLV and UNM's winning percentages, however, the problem is, it's not the actual percentage that people care about, it's whether that number is better or worse when the dust settles than that of other teams whose percentage is currently near BYU's. That's one reason the end-of-season RPI projections can't be all that accurate. So much can and does happen in the various conference tourneys that it's impossible who will take the RPI hit and who won't. That's also another reason RPI can't be counted on to definitively say which is "the best" team, because in many instances, the percentages are so close, there's logistically NO difference between two teams next to each other in the RPI rankings.

All that said, if BYU's RPI lags behind their ranking or their SOS, all of the sudden the RPI is the most important factor to the selection committee in that moment.

If SOS lags behind ranking or RPI, THAT becomes more important.

Starting to recognize a pattern?

RPIforecast can predict one game ahead in the post-season. For example, our RPI should remain 23 if we beat TCU again, which we have a 97.42% chance of doing. If they beat us, in some alternate-universe game, our RPI would drop down to about 27.

Not likely to play Utah now that foster is out. Without him the Utes match up terribly with UNLV and it should be a wipeout in favor of UNLV this time around.

Thanks. I'm actually quite thrilled that our RPI wouldn't (most likely I guess) drop at all for beating TCU, as bad as they are.

It looked like our RPI went up after losing to UNLV. Is RPI separate from SOS? I suppose they are tied together. I sure would like to see our future SOS to be upgraded. I think we should have a policy of not playing any 300+ rpi teams. better to play a second game against Ut St or Webber. At least they are sub 100 teams and travel costs are low.

Yes, RPI and SOS are different. We had a TERRIBLE SOS this year. Not much you can do about it though, except win, which BYU did pretty consistently. We'll see how they do in the tourney against other good teams.

So were we a better team this year? There were no bad losses. All losses were to sub 50 teams. We set a record for wins in a year but we did play a lot of 200, 300 teams. Wouldn't we have been better off playing tougher teams and having more losses but a better SOS. I personally believe that we need to play top 30 teams even if we loss to prepare for the tournament. If you are use to playing the best then you perform better in the tournament.

Teams don't want to schedule us because they see us as a bad loss. Well if we were a consistent top 25 team then we would be seen as a potential good win. Schedule as many sub 100 teams and improve the SOS.

Yep, it's as easy as that. Glad we have it all figured out now.
