A first for Coach Rose

I was just reading Greg Wrubell's Cougar Tracks from this morning, where I saw this:

Dave Rose said something poignant the other night during our postgame show: since he's been BYU head coach, today's game is the first game he will coach without a chance to win the MWC regular season championship. In every other season, BYU was in the title chase either up to or including every regular season finale. That deserves a "wow."

So Coach Rose coached 148 regular season games, including 79 conference games, before coaching a game where he didn't have a chance to win (or had already clinched) the MWC title. :love:

Whoa!? I that for real?

The football team seems to struggle against the Utes but the basketball team bludgens them. I hope the Utes transfer Boylin to football.

To be fair, our starters weren't great against Utah either:

Jimmer 1-7

Emery 3-11

Haws 1-6

Hartsock 0-1

Miles 0-2



That's 4-27 from our starters. Of course Davies and Loyd combined to net 14 FGs -- as many as Utah had as a team. If BYU had shot the ball like they shot against TCU, we'd have beaten utah by 40.

Which makes the stats even more impressive, in that it was, (for the most part) second-stringers that accomplished this.

Yep, I really believe our backups could finish in the top five of the league.

The reason our starters shot poorly is because Utah, for as bad as they are on offense, is a solid defensive team. They made our guys work hard, and luckily, the speed of Loyd and interior O of Davies got it done. Otherwise, BYU really was not super impressive in the U game for such a blowout. Utah was just atrocious.

That's not necessarily a bad thing...
