Alford on Rose

I don't comment much in the basketball forum, but I noticed this at the end of Yahoo! Sports' interview on Sunday with Steve Alford:

Q: Who are coaches in the profession that you look to as mentors? Who are your closest confidants in and out of the profession?



A: Buzz Peterson at Appalachian State, Murry Bartow at East Tennessee State, Dan Monson at Long Beach State – plus I’m good friends and very respectful of the coaches in our league. Guys like Dave Rose at BYU and Heath Schroyer at Wyoming. I call John Calipari at Kentucky and Rick Barnes at Texas … those are the guys I confide in the most.



Q: Speaking of Dave Rose, how impressed are you with the job he’s done at BYU less than a year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer?



A: It’’s been remarkable. You can’t help but respect a guy like that. I’ve got the utmost respect for him and the way he runs his program. It’s a very classy program and Dave and his staff do a tremendous job.
