WickchadI would imagine the school will be forced to expel the kid. Any student that assaults a teacher/administrator can not be allowed to stay in the same school. So then the questions arrises as to if he can graduate and even be eligible for enrollment at Utah. Chances are Utah will pull his scholarship.

I'm just as jaded as the next guy, but I will be shocked if this kid remains enrolled at this same high school. I would not be surprised if Utah still offers him a scholarship though. Reading some of the comments on the news article sounds like this kid has had some problems in the past that have already been swept under the rug. Maybe it would be best for him if he was finally held accountable for his actions.

Guaranteed they don't pull it. this makes them happy. it increases their chances of getting him. this is their niche. get the very talented guys that others wont take chances on becuase they are classless.

And you sound like a pubescent kid. Another one looking out for their delicate little egos. He probably had a hard life, blah, blah, blah....He's old enough to have learned right from wrong, respect for others, what lines you don't cross, etc. I sure hope you aren't raising little brats soon.
PS - my apologies for sounding terse, but it really gets under my skin when people try to excuse these spoiled kids instead of teaching them that there are consequences to our choices in life.

A little harsh Iceman, but I'm on your side. When was it ever OK to lose control and assault someone? Especially a teacher/coach? If I was in this kid's shoes, I'd already know that I would be looking for a new school, probably in a new school district.

" A star Redlands East Valley baseball player who admits he wrestled his coach to the ground in anger has been expelled from the high school for the remainder of the year. Tyler Shreve, 18, instigated a physical altercation against coach James Cordes on Feb. 24 in a school administration conference room after Cordes dismissed the student-athlete from the team. Regarding the attack on Cordes, Shreve said: "He was taking my dreams away. I'd worked so hard and if you were losing hundreds of thousands of dollars you wouldn't be too happy either."
The two-sport Redlands East Valley star has received a full athletic scholarship to play quarterback at the University of Utah. Liz Abel, the Utah sports information director, said in an email Thursday that the school is gathering information on what happened and that nothing has been determined yet regarding Shreve's scholarship.
A tall right-hander with a 90-plus mph fastball, Shreve was an Aflac All-American on the mound and in the field where he played shortstop. Last summer he played for the Milwaukee Brewers blue team in the prestigious Area Codes Games at Blair Field in Long Beach. Shreve said he will attend a community school as he pursues his high school diploma. He plans to play for travel baseball team this spring. "I think it was the right decision," Shreve said Thursday. "I feel bad (about what happened), but I can't do anything about it, so now I just have to move on."
Shreve spoke from outside his family's ranch-style Highland house [outside of the district for the school he illegally plays for]. He confirmed the incident occurred at the conclusion of a meeting with Cordes. Shreve said his parents, Tony and Linda; Cordes; REV principal John Maloney; and a few others attended the meeting that led to his removal from the team. Shreve said he has apologized to Cordes for the attack in which he says he wrestled the coach to the ground, but did not punch him. But Shreve also disagrees with Cordes' rationale in removing him from the team. "He said I wasn't going to class and I wasn't respecting the coaches, but I thought I showed him nothing but respect," Shreve said. Susan Mickey, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County district attorney's office, said Thursday the office is reviewing the case. Paul Cullen, a spokesman for the Redlands Unified School District, said it's the district's policy not to comment on students. Cordes declined comment, while REV athletic director Rhonda Fouch and district athletic director Pat Hafley were not immediately available for comment. "
The only question here seems to be if the baseball coach (who reportedly ended up with two black eyes, "wrestling" my a**) will press charges or not. Sounds like Dad is offering $$$ for the "not" option, just like with Whittingham's son stealing the cell phone and breaking the camera in LES. If the coach presses charges, it's a felony and Whitt will have to pull his schollie to Utah. If he takes the money, it's only a misdemeanor and the Ute coaches will likely sweep this one under the rug. All for a kid who just wants to play baseball professionally. :utard:

MarsThere's been absolutely NO WORD on this from the leader of the SNOT. People in Shreve's hometown were 100% convinced that Shreve's schollie was gone, that crap like that wouldn't fly at the college level. Welcome to the University of Utah folks.

LawboyESPN article on this matter now. Sounds as if the kid is a really good baseball player, too, and might get drafted. With the right $$$, he will never set foot on the U campus.

We made such a big deal about a recruit taking a trip to Notre Dame. How about admitting to ESPN that you are trying to get drafted so you can skip college. It just goes to show the differences in recruiting between the 2 schools.
According to The Press-Enterprise of Riverside, the incident took place in a school conference room. Shreve, his parents, Redlands East Valley principal John Maloney and Cordes were all present. Shreve attacked Cordes after he informed the group of his decision to dismiss Shreve for not going to class and not respecting the coaching staff.
Shreve's father Tony pulled him off the coach, who was injured but not serious enough to warrant hospitalization.
Pretty gutsy to do this in front of your parents and the principal.
Shreve also is playing travel baseball to make sure his draft status stays intact. He is playing for the ABD Academy, a club baseball program based out of San Bernardino, which is made up of some of the best amateur baseball talent in Southern California. The league has produced major league talent including Philadelphia Phillies infielder Greg Dobbs and Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Reed Johnson.
Shreve said his goal is to be drafted in June, and if he goes as high as projected and the money is right, he said he'd skip college.
