I don't see that being the case. BYU has a number of players who could play the 5 if needed:

Richard Harward 6' 11" 255

Gavin Baxter 6' 9"" 210

Caleb Lohner 6' 8" 230

New recruits (both of these recruits are listed on 247 Sport as 5's):

Atiki Ally Atiki 6' 11" 235

Fousseyni Traore 6' 7" 235



According to Vanquish the Foe BYU's next target is #3 Both Gach and have backed off the big 5 (Dusan Mahorcic) from Illinois St; BYU Basketball Transfer Big Board 5.0: Targets Narrowed After Te’Jon Lucas Commitment

We need a PG for next season. Better to get them now so they can be ready for next season.
