Interesting comments on some 2010 BYU prospects

QB - Jake Heaps...This one hurts the most because he was the local kid who ended up being rated the top HS QB in the country this past season. In reality Jake was lost way before Steve Sarkisian ever set foot in Seattle. Heaps was not impressed with the program or the players on the current roster. Former coach Ty Willilingham wasn't on him early despite the fact that his son went to the same HS and that was another huge problem. In the end Sark rallied enough to pull Washington into the #2 position but the relationship he built with the staff at BYU over the past three years was impossible to overcome.



Washington did end up with a pretty good QB in Nick Montana. From a national standpoint that verbal garnered more of an impact because his dad after all is Joe Montana. Having that family hanging around Montlake for five years won't be a bad thing. Oh...by the way...Nick outperformed Jake when they played against each other earlier this year. May have been the first time that Husky fans cheered for a California HS program when they were playing a Washington HS program.



DT- Ricky Heimuli...UW had the last visit but Ricky was a student of the depth charts. Chances are he wasn't going to start right away at Washington. He also may have ended up behind Sione Potoae who had a better showing in all star game workouts. He ended up picking Oregon who had more of the immediate need. If you are a Husky you wish he had stayed home at Utah.



DE - Kona Schwenke...This was a strange saga because he never ended up visiting because he simply ran out of time after BYU dropped him for the dalliance with Notre Dame. He wanted to sign after LOI day and visit UW but the Irish told him sign or we will take someone else. He did the smart thing and signed with ND.



Nice spin on the Heaps/Montana bit.



I don't know why Heimuli was so concerned with depth charts since he's said he has mission plans.



Funny how the Schwenkes weren't outraged when Notre Dame told them they couldn't visit UW or else lose their offer.

Yeah, too bad Jake did better in every other game, and outperformed him the camps they went to together. And kind of like the UNLV thread in the other forum, don't base opinions on one game.

I find it interesting that any LDS kid would be considering the UW program after what the heaps family has went through. If UW fans keep it up they are going to lose their chances with LDS talent in the future.



That is ironic that ND told Schwenke the same thing as BYU. The more information that comes out, the better that decision by Bronco to pull his scholarship looks. Talk about your ultimate wishy washy character who ultimately forced himself into signing with ND.

I"m glad the kid didn't push his way out of a scholarship altogether. Imagine if he went to Washington and then they didn't' end up offering him for some reason. he'd have to walk on somewhere?

If you evaluate the game Skyline had with Oaks Christian, you can argue that Heaps had the better game. For crying out loud, Montana had a running back that reminded me of Larry Johnson in his hay day with the KC Chiefs...the kid was sick and without looking at stats I guarantee he had over 125 yards. Most of Montana's passes were to the flats or short dumps to Alani Fua...speaking of Alani Fua, he could not be blocked on defense. The Skyline offensive line was very ill prepared for this game and didn't even show up, yet Heaps still had them back in the game in the fourth quarter. In addition, Heaps senior Running Back had a horrible game even lost a fumble. I just don't think you can say Montana had the better game even in a win against Heaps team. Montana had a supporting cast that was much better that day. Heaps looked like a star Montana looked like he had help....just sayin'. This story pisses me off. We'll see who has the better career. I pray that Heaps starts this coming fAll.. Go Heaps!!!

lets not forget heaps had the flue and was puking in between snaps. he also had to deal with that monster fua constantly sacking him.

Until we see what these kids do on the field in a game time situation, it is all just talk anyway. Heaps seems better than Montana, but Montana's father sure surprised people after his years at Notre Dame, didn't he. You never know until they play the game. I have high hopes for Heaps, but that is all they are--hopes. I'll take realized potential over hopes.

I watched that game live on tv. Alani Fua was the best player on the field for Oaks Christian on both sides of the ball. If you want to call him a sleeper, he would be the sleeper/diamond in this recruiting class. Montana started off strong but Heaps was the best QB consistantly during the game, almost pulled it off in the end even though it was obvious that Skyline was not as well coached or as talented as Oaks Christian. It was a good game for me to watch because I got to see a few of BYU's recruits shine. They all played well in the game. UW just has to say these things to make themselves feel better about losing heaps but getting Montana.

I hadn't heard Jake H. had the flu before & during the game. That's a courageous & determined athlete!!! The kids got grit!!!! Mongo like!
