Women Bball Rebuke Fans

So today an article in the Daily Universe (not seen by many) about the women's basketball team focused on how awful the fan support has been, and the fact that they have a good record and their games are: "more exciting than most men teams"



Before you even think about laughing here's more:

"People think of girls basketball as really boring, but we have a team that has fast transitions and we have good fundamentals"





This reminds me of a Futurama episode when the crew lands on a planet ruled by female giants and they say quote:



"We no can dunk, but have good fundamentals. That's more fun to watch"

It was like reading about one of my favorite episodes.



Okay, here's the reasons I don't go to women's basketball, despite the fact they focus on fundamentals.



1-They have great accuracy shooting sure, but I can do things they can't. I'm more impressed aesthetically by watching men bust out moves and competition that I couldn't personally bring. Women look think think act, which isn't fun to watch.



2-I was so angered by being 'forced' to go to a women's game to get my utah game tickets a couple years ago, I'll never go again just because of that, as well as reason 1.







Sorry ladies, I always want you to win, and beat Utah, but that's as far as it goes. You complained that New Mexico and Wyoming gets lots of fans, as well as TCU, but keep in mind TCU is mostly girls in school, Wyoming has lots of perverts, and New Mexico fans get in free, and besides ballooning there isn't much else to do there.

I'm going to highly recommend that you watch this

I recall my freshman year challenging 3 of BYU's starters to a game 2 on 3 and, yeah they were embarrassed. Girls ball may be exciting in certain situations but the lack of jumping at any point in the game and overall dearth of athleticism just puts me to sleep.

Sorry ladies. I'll cheer your scores, positive record, and accomplishments but it's hard to find the motivation to get out to a women's basketball game no matter what lever we are talking about.



More exciting than men's bball? That's kinda where they lost me.

Here's how "fundamental" the girls game is:



Turnovers per game: BYU 17.0 Opp 18.7

FG PCT: BYU .438 Opp .374

3P PCT: BYU .362 Opp .292

FT PCT: BYU .655 Opp .687



Sorry girls, you can argue all you want about being "fundamental" but your stats don't back that up. Your style of play doesn't back that up. You fail the "eye test" when it comes to good basketball because it simply isn't.

Here's where those stats for BYU would rank in the MWC on the men's side:



Turnovers per game: Last (by more than one TOPG)

FG PCT: 6th (tied w/ AF and WYO)

3P PCT: 3rd (behind BYU and UNM) so actually not too bad

FT PCT: 6th (tied w/ CSU and WYO)

It's like watching an MMA fight between 115 pounders. Sure they are technically sound, but they're not going to knock each other out and I could probably finish them in the first round. Yawn!

Couldn't legislation bring equality here?

Don't give our representatives any ideas. They wold surely attempt to redistribute the fan base so that equal fans would be attending both women's and men's games.

I would rather shoot myself in the kneecap than go to a women's basketball game.

Let me try and paint a picture lest some think I am exagerating. I was back in Boston to work on my Master's Degree. I was 29 years old. I'm 5'9". And my only experience with "organized" basketball is churchball (hence the finger quotes on organized) :lol:



Anyway, one of the students back there was a 27 year old former WNBA player that was about 6'3"or 6'4". I don't remember her name but I know she claimed to have played three seasons with Charlotte Sting.



Long and short of it was we played 1 v. 1 and she beat me to 21 (2's and 3's) 3 out of 5 games.



Yeah, when a schmuck like me with as little b-ball background as I have can take it to 5 games with a 3yr pro that's 6-7 inches taller and 2 yrs younger...yeah, you know how I feel about women's hoops (and frankly almost anything else women's sports...except I have been recently reminded how much more I enjoy watching female figure skaters than males...hello!) :sick:

There was a story here in Utah back when the Starzz were in town that the Utah Starzz of the WNBA played one of the local high schools in SLC before one of their seasons and lost. I don't remember if it was ever documented or if it was someone calling into at radio station or not. But I do remember the story.



It's one reason why guys can't get into women's bball. We watch it and think, they're no better than I am.

I don't know how many women BBall players I could beat, but I'm sure I would have been the world record holder in the 100m, 200m & 400 m in track if I ran as a German woman. And I was barely considered for BYU's men's track team. (My claim to fame . . . I got beat several times by Frank Fredericks. No, it wasn't even close)

I agree with most of what's been said, though I've enjoyed the few BYU women's basketball games I've been to. If our men's team sucked this year, it would probably be an ok alternative...

I played basketball in high school (I'm a girl) and if I wasn't the one playing I wouldn't want to watch either. Yeah it's fun to play but I don't wonder why no one wants to watch women's games. It's stupid and not even close to the excitement of men's. I've been to EVERY men's game for the past who knows how long and only one women's game. The only reason I went to watch them lose by 40 (I hear they've gotten better) is on the off-chance some men's players would be there. I ended up meeting JT, Archie, Lamont, and Mikey ... so I'd say it was worth it :D

Looking for the meat market at BYU. Sounds like something I would do if I were there. :whistle:

I'd watch my daughter play basketball...she has a good decade to go, but I'd watch her play.
