BYU announces new media rights and bowl game deals with ESPN

Brigham Young University and ESPN, Inc. announced a new seven-year media rights agreement for BYU home football games that will continue their longstanding relationship through the 2026 college football season.



Under the new regular-season media rights agreement, ESPN will continue to televise nationally a minimum of four BYU home football games each season.

- A minimum of three games will be carried on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2

- One additional game can air on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU

- ESPN has the option to pick up a 5th game to air on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU

- One game (typically the FCS game) will be carried live on BYUtv



BYU bowl agreements 2020 through 2025:



2020 ESPN Events Bowl Game (if not in NY6 bowl)

2021 Independence Bowl (Shreveport, LA) vs C-USA on ESPN Network (if not in NY6 bowl)

2022 ESPN Events Bowl Game (if not in NY6 bowl)

2023 Independence Bowl (Shreveport, LA) vs PAC12 on ESPN Network (if not in NY6 bowl)

2024 ESPN Events Bowl Game (if not in NY6 bowl)

2025 Independence Bowl (Shreveport, LA) vs C-USA on ESPN Network (if not in NY6 bowl)



**BYU has the option to substitute one ESPN events Bowl Game and one Independence Bowl Game above with the Cheez-It Bowl/Cactus Bowl in Arizona on ESPN Network should its conference tie-ins (Big Ten and Big 12) be unable to provide an opponent.

Glad to see that ESPN+ is not on the list. Now, IF there does end up being a season I need to figure out how I am going to watch. I've gone from Sling to Playstation Vue to YoutubeTV and YoutubeTV just increased from $50 to $65 a month. Might as well sign up for Cable again. All I need is ESPN for BYU sports and maybe some other channels occassionally like for March Madess. What little professional sports I watched I am pretty much completely done with now. Too bad I can't pay just $15/month for just sports with no movie or other channels.

The Cheez-It Bowl is changing to Cactus Bowl for 2020 (sponsorship ran out?).



Also, yes--ESPN Events Bowl Game is one of the 14 ESPN bowls. Some have at large spots and some will not be able to be filled by a conference tie in. BYU would slot into one of those bowls though a specific one is not given until that season.
