Haws close to putting in Mission Papers

"According to family members, Haws is close to submitting his papers for an LDS Church mission and hopes to leave before May so when he returns in two years he'll have a few months to get back in basketball shape before his sophomore season begins."

Good for him.

Interesting fact: if you type in "Tyler Haws" into Google, one of the suggestions is "Tyler Haws mission." Also true for Jake Heaps. Must be weird having complete strangers wondering about your mission plans.

I wish they were in already so he could go as soon at the semester is over. I had thought I had heard that he'd be 19 before the season was over and he can submit two months before he turns 19. He gets called to one of the missions where they are slow to get visas and I've seen those called in April getting calls for October. Believe it or not there are several missions in the world doing that and that list is growing as more and more countries are becoming more and more restrictive of individuals coming to their countries for religious reasons. There was an article this week in the DesNews covering a talk given by one of our Church attorneys given at J. Ruben Clark Law School stating that many European countries are becoming becoming and more secular and not allowing visas to flow as they once did.

Waiting to any point after August to me would make it very difficult to be useful in the early season upon returning.

No wonder we are seeing the collapse of the Euro and the european economy. Good luck with that secularism Europe.

Just look at Hartsock last season. He returned late, got injured, and was fairly worthless most of the year. Then this year, he's the starter over an All-MWC senior and a huge contributor on a Top 15 team.

It really bothered me last year, to read all the comments about what a bad player Hartsock was, because I knew what a catch he was for BYU, and that the problem was his recent return. I think he has well aquitted himself this year. Emery suffered from the same malady last year, and some folks haven't gotten over it. I hope Haws gets out early to avoid the same.

For some perspective on this, I just put my papers in at the end of December, and my availability date was ASAP. Naturally my report date is May 5th...haha. On the bright side, I will get to witness all of March Madness and most of the final season of Lost :lol:

But yeah, true enough, the sooner he get them in, the better.

Congrats, I think it's more challenging/more rewarding to go foreign, but I might be a little biased on the subject...

My brother-in-law is in that same mission. He just got there like 2 weeks ago.
