KSL's Way too early look at BYU's 2020 schedule

Like the story says, it is way too early to know how these teams are going to look--but it appears it may be a good time to run into Missouri and Stanford as both are going through issues with coaches and players. Utah also will have a QB competition between 2 transfers new to the program and lost a TON of starters on both sides of the ball.

Way too early look, Hawkwing edition, probably 4 win season, with equal chances of 3 or 5.

This is watching the last two games talking, but after they start 0-6, will they still have enough spirit to beat the FCS teams at the end of the season?

Sitake could go 0-12 next year and still have a job. They would fire the offensive staff, keep the defensive staff and start over again in 2021.

Wow....just saw on twitter that Utah is now losing Javelin Guidry to the NFL. That makes 8 of 11 starters including 2 juniors gone from this year's defense.

Only right DE Mika Tafua (SO), ROVER Devin Lloyd (SO), and Free Safety Nephi Sewell (JR) return from the starters.

Plus their offense loses their starting QB (Huntley), RB (Moss), WR (Simpkins), backup WR (Vickers), backup QB (Shelley - moving to safety), Left Tackle (Paulo), backup Left Tackle (Locklear), and backup Center (Toala).



This could be a completely different team BYU faces in the first game of the year next year.

Like last year and the year before and the year before that the schedule probably looks tougher on paper than it really will be.

Looks like SDSU will have a new coach when they play BYU this coming year. Rocky Long is stepping down and DL coach Brady Hoke will be the new HC.

Under Sitake BYU has a solid history of winning a game or two that no one expects them to even compete in. Fortunately for BYU there are lots of those on the schedule next year. I can See Sitake beating Utah and then winning one or two additional games next year.

I wondered where Brady had went after being fired at Michigan. Hard to believe he took an assistant coach job back where he had one time been head coach. Interesting. I have to believe he came back with talk from Rocky that this would probably be happening.

Houston's senior QB who redshirted after only playing in the first 4 games is in the transfer portal. King has thrown for 663 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 312 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He broke Tim Tebow's record for most consecutive games with a passing and rushing touchdown (15).



He had previously said he would return in 2020 for sure, but things seem to have changed with the performance of Sophomore Clayton Tune in King's absence.

A two-time Big Ten coach of the year, Dantonio has been at Michigan State since 2007 and is the program's winningest coach with 114 victories. Since taking over the Spartans, Dantonio has won three conference titles and three division titles, while guiding the program through one of its most successful eras.

Scandal, however, has marred the past few seasons.



Lawyers for former recruiting director Curtis Blackwell alleged that Dantonio committed multiple NCAA violations. Blackwell is suing Dantonio and others at Michigan State claiming wrongful termination. He says he was made into a scapegoat as the football program and the university responded to a series of sexual assault allegations in the early months of 2017. University police arrested Blackwell on suspicion of obstruction as part of a sexual misconduct investigation involving three former Michigan State football players in January 2017. He was not charged with a crime. He was suspended indefinitely in February 2017, and four months later, his year-to-year contract was not renewed.



When asked about Blackwell in the summer of 2017, Dantonio said Blackwell's contract was not renewed due to "philosophical differences."



Blackwell believes he was let go so that the football program and university could blame him for a recruiting class that featured four players who were all convicted of crimes related to sexual incidents within their first year on campus. Blackwell says it was Dantonio's decision -- not his -- to bring the most controversial of those players to East Lansing.

With things so unsettled, BYU will be facing them on September 12.

Dantonio's retirement announcement came one day after his former recruiting director, Curtis Blackwell, filed claims that Dantonio committed NCAA recruiting violations as part of an ongoing lawsuit. The new filing alleges that Dantonio helped arrange employment for the parents of two high-profile recruits. Blackwell also says that Dantonio took him on recruiting trips to a high-profile recruit's home, which is an NCAA violation.

Hmm, that timing...maybe he was about to be forced to resign?

Utah's S/backup QB Jason Shelley is in the transfer portal. He would be a RS Junior. He was moved to safety late last year as he was not expected to get the nod at QB this year. He apparently wants to play QB.



Utah's QB race will now come down to Jake Bentley (grad transfer from South Carolina) and Cam Rising (Texas transfer who sat out last year). Drew Lisk (senior) would be behind these two--although there is speculation that he may move on from Utah after graduating this spring.

Arizona State's OC was fired and is moving to Miami as a WR coach. So Arizona State will have a new OC when BYU plays them this year on Sep 19.
