Joe Critchlow Enters Transfer Portal

I guess not a surprise really. Even if Hall does not play football next year we have Maiava coming in and then Conover the year after.

I think he could be a good fit at an SUU or similar program. He's a good kid and plays well. Lots of opportunities for him.

Yes, hate to see him gone, but totally makes sense. Too much ability to simply ride the pine most of the year.



I went down through all of the 400+ individuals in the transfer portal and there is another noted as from BYU.

Actually was on the roster in 2018 and is an RM. I don't know if he's coming off a mission and entered the transfer portal or what's going on, because he's not on the current roster.

"Coming out of Kahuku, Latu was 200 pounds and playing the safety position. During his career with the Cougars, he bulked to 240 pounds and was moved to outside linebacker then this past fall camp was moved to defensive end.



Last season, Latu was projected to see time at linebacker but he suffered a season-ending injury that sidelined him the entire year.



This past month, Latu had been competing in fall camp practices but according to sources was not in attendance at BYU’s final scrimmage of camp this past Wednesday."



It seems his body change/position change didn't serve him well and he was struggling to find time. Interesting he hasn't found another spot after a year.

Interesting comment about there may be more guys who want to transfer to play more. This is the usual attrition that is part of any healthy program. Though it is disappointing to lose guys you see on the team and like.

He has little to no chance to ever see the field at BYU. I wish him luck. I just hope that some of the transfers coach sitake is talking about doesn't include Baylor Romney who should be our starting QB.

Baylor isn't going anywhere.

Also Thursday, it was revealed by 247Sports.com that sophomore kicker Skyler Southam has entered the transfer portal, joining backup quarterback Joe Critchlow.



Southam, a returned missionary from Heber City’s Wasatch High, was BYU’s primary field goal and PAT kicker in 2018, and most known for making a 45-yarder that beat Wisconsin 24-21 in Madison. But he lost the job in 2019 to Jake Oldroyd, and was just 1 of 3 on field goal attempts and 3 of 3 on PATs.



He excelled as BYU’s kickoff specialist, however, with 69 kickoffs for a 58.6 average and 18 touchbacks. Southam was a U.S. Army All-American his senior season at Wasatch High before serving on a mission in Chile for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.



Another kicker, returned missionary Ryan Rehkow, will join the program in January, BYU announced last week.

Jake Hatch is reporting that Southam has enrolled at Utah. It isn't clear if he is getting a scholarship or walking on and I would assume he has to sit a year as a FBS transfer. Utah has played heavily in the transfer market--which ends up with years like this one where they are losing almost their entire starting defense as they are all seniors or early departing juniors in the same season.
