Is Ed Lamb the new scapegoat?

It looks like Kalani is utilizing his friends to point out that it's not actually Tuiaki who is in charge of the disastrous defense this year, but is in fact Ed Lamb, even though none of us have ever heard this before.

To me this tells me that Kalani is gearing up to fire Ed Lamb but wants to get the fans on board. This is pretty similar to when the friends started mobilizing about 2/3rd of the way through the season against Ty Detmer in 2017.

Maybe I'm just a paranoid conspiracy theorist though?

Your theory makes more sense than Russell Nebeker's statements

Who is Russell Nebeker?

If I'm not mistaken - he's that really old crazy dude from the movie "Monster House"

Seems like he's a friend to Kalani and Tuiaki, according to his comments and he wants Ed Lamb fired rather than either of them.

Firing Lamb but not Sitake or Tuiake would be like removing a wart from your foot but not a tumor from your brain.

The program is a total joke right now

Ed Lamb is the only guy I would retain if I had a voice. He is the only coach on staff that has run a successful winning organization. This is so typical of losers. Blame everyone but yourself. There is no way Ed Lamb is calling the defenses, what a freaking crock.

Sitake is like, everyone is an idiot except for me and my bud and that's why we're losing.

He can't pick on Grimes. That dude actually came from a winning program at a school Sitake can only dream of being water boy at.

Sitake won't blame his bud, and he certainly won't blame himself. That leads Lamb.

I suspect, if there is any shred of truth to Ed Lamb being involved it's because Ed Lamb is being trying to actually salvage the program and be the coach this team needs.

The only part of tweet that makes any sense is where he says

"we need to put more money into recruiting is a huge issue and the other is that under the current wages that byu offers, who will you get that will improve things?"

Yes who will BYU get to improve things? Which of the 3 realistic people who check all the mythical box's can BYU afford (choose to afford) and better yet who even wants to come and try and turn BYU around with all the current issues and restrictions?

I can't help but feel doom and gloom anymore when I think about BYU football. A friend who is a die hard says it would be easier to watch them close the program down then to keep watching them slowly bleed out every weekend. I don't feel that way but I understand where he's coming from.

What I am most disappointed about is the missed opportunity in the title of this thread.

I think he would be better cast in the role of "The Sacrificial...

I'd like to know why everyone thinks Kalani is such a great guy? He gets hired as HC and then does his now infamous dance down on the field at LES with family and friends in the background as if to say 'we all got it made in the shade' and the eat and party culture of ours just took a big step up. He then gets rid of a bunch of assistant coaches and starts hiring friends and family for those positions. It becomes rather apparent after year #2 that he's a bad HC with boneheaded decisions and little ability to strategize, game plan, make in-game adjustments or break down X's and O's. Instead of realizing and/or acknowledging his own failures, he fires Ty Detmer who was a total fall guy and scapegoat for Sitake's shortcomings. In post-game interviews after a loss, he rarely takes blame and instead pins it on anyone who underperformed or had a bad game or will even take pot shots at players, even his own QB. Now it's Ed Lamb who's the problem??? Sitake a nice guy???

I fully do not get what you are saying here - Are you saying that Sitake would be a better coach if he made more money? Or are you saying that money cost BYU coaching candidates? Assistant or head coach? I cannot think of a single head or assistant coach that would have come to BYU if BYU had offered that person more money.

I think that the paycheck argument is a red herring.

The fact that the LDS church has $32 BILLION in the US stock market means it is flush with cash and should have no trouble ponying up for BYU's football program to keep it competitive, especially when its members are handing over 10% of their income to it and are as passionate as they are about BYU football! It is appalling and disgusting to me that the church has members cleaning its toilets for free after they laid off all their janitors years ago when they lost a boatload of money during the last financial crisis and when Beneficial Life went belly up but now has $32 billion in their stock portfolio, built a high end mall and condos in downtown SLC for $5 billion, owns 3% of the land in Florida for a future 500,000 person metropolis owned and operated by the church as landlord, keeps buying up office high rises and apartment complexes around the world to the tune of billions, yet, penny pinches with its religion and schools and then tells the president of Zimbabwe that we are 'not a rich people' and thus cannot assist in the development of clean water wells or construction of water piping projects. It's unreal.

I will agree with you on the head coaching argument only because of the unwritten rule and the lack of candidates for the position. Assistants don't have to have a temple recommend so yes BYU should spend the money. Assistants will go wherever they can especially if they can make above average market value there. Go out and spend the money. Or do they truly believe that it's some kind of mythical blessing to coach at BYU.

I still cannot tell you of any assistants that BYU lost to go somewhere else simply for more money. The money argument is simply a red herring wielded by those with an ax to grind. And therefore unpersuasive.

As a member of the church that happily cleans the toilets once a quarter for free you've completely lost me on this diatribe.

Again, I cannot name any coach that BYU lost out on over money. You obviously have a big problem with the church's finances, and I hope that someday you'll catch up on whatever sleep that you've lost of this issue, but the money issue is not what is currently holding the football program back. If Kyle Whittingham had told BYU that he'd switch schools if BYU paid him more than the Utes were then this would be an excellent argument. However, I'm not aware of that being the situation. If Andy Reid had called BYU and said I really want to come home and coach in Provo, but I'm unwilling to take a pay cut, then again, this would be a spectacular argument. As it is, I cannot think of anyone who has chosen not to come to BYU over the money, so its a argument that addressees something that is not the actual problem.
