USF game thread

All things considered, I think BYU has a party in Florida today and the Cougars pounce on the Bulls. I have no reason aside from (1) a bye week with added prep time, (2) added urgency following a dumb loss, and (3) a QB change that brings an unknown to USF.



I am an optimistic fan and think the program is in good shape. So far we have tastes of success but inconsistent play, and are probably 3-5 plays away from either a 4-1 start, or 0-5.



I am hoping to witness the Jaren Hall Show, and a good, solid beatdown on USF. I can hear Charlie Strong's thoughts, that dude has witnessed a beatdown from BYU before :)



Fellow Cougars, may we each enjoy a beautiful autumn and accompanying football season. Loyal, strong, and true, let's beat USF through and through.



And thank you in advance, Jaren Hall. The media coverage around being the first Black QB at BYU makes me go wellllllll okaaaayyy??? Stacy Conner was too deep in the depth and transferred, and apparently Utah is just a really White state. Ask JSwaggDaddy or Derwin Gray or Dayan Ghanwoloku and others about being a racial minority at BYU. This road has been traveled. There is reason to consider that the QB position contains a symbol of leadership, and whoever excels there gets the nod. Whatever discussion ensues, I hope it is toward common goodness and decency for all. I do hope the divisive society we live in understands BYU equally in every position, on and off the field.

Hall is really struggling as you would expect with when to throw it away and when to just turn up field and when to cover up and take the sack. Taking WAY too many sacks early.

The Oline looking bad with 3 position changes (Hodges out).

He seems to have lots of tools. Hopefully he can settle down and at least make the easy throws.



The OLine is getting worse or they are not as good as I recall earlier in the season.

Eric Mateos lit up the O-line on the radio this week saying he thought he had some guys who liked reading about how good they were and they are not living up to the hype. He must be getting frustrated with them to do that openly.

That was a great throw and catch for the TD. Hall to Milne.

USF gets their first 1st down with 8 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. They have 7 yards passing this game.

BYU defense suddenly gives up 4 1st downs in a row. All running plays. Maybe USF found our Achillies heel...

TD USF. Wow, the defense disappeared on that drive. Beau Tanner just jogging and doesn't pick up the receiver that went to the next level for the TD catch. Disappointing for a Senior. Even the commentators pointed out that he just jogged on the play and didn't take the coverage....

OK ... I've been facing cellular problems, which means couldn't get the game on my phone, it's not on the radio where I live ... and I just tuned in on TV.



It looks like Hall is doing well ... but sounds like execution by the team as a whole is questionable.



BTW ... what is it going to take for this team to finish a long drive?!? I thought the TV guys said BYU has has 12 drives this season of 10 plays or more and they have 6 FG to show for it ..... NOT good

The defense largely kept USF in check until that TD drive--but suddenly were getting gashed for 10+ yards a rush and then they throw it to the end zone. They need to get better quick against the run, and then finish some of the long drives where they move the ball down the field and stall in the end zone. To be fair, one of Oldroyd's FGs was 51 yards so that wasn't quite a red zone stall.

Why are the DBs trying to tackle the big RBs up around the shoulders so they get dragged an additional 8 yards downfield? SMH...
