The word is that this kid recently said that he'd pick Yewtah over BYU. The word is also that his work ethic is extraordinarily low. So no skin off my back. None of the schools he's most interested in have strong histories of developing TEs anyway so it's not like he's going about his recruitment very smart. He's obviously focused on the glitz and glamour but unless he changes his work ethic, he'll be riding the pine in college. In high school, you can survive and even dominate on talent alone but in college you don't get anywhere without hard work.

The bottom line is that no one develops and utilizes the TE on a consistent basis more than BYU. Period. That's why you saw both Harline and Coats in training camp in '07 and why you'll see the same this year with Pitta/George. Harline would have found a home too if he didn't get injured. He likely would have been drafted as well if his numbers didn't suck at the combine.

Yes, yes, because it looks like he is not going to pick byu he is obviously lacking in intelligence and any type of work ethic. what a moron right.

I'd say Miami does. They have way more NFL Te's than BYU does. So do other schools. BYU features the position more than others, but that does not guarantee NFL success. Ask Chris Smith, Harline, and others.

I'd rather get a skilled WR than TE. We can recruit TE's, and do not need Jenkins to be great.

Don't get so defensive about stuff like this. That's obviously not what he was saying.

Yes, exactly.

Sure the old Miami used to pump out quality TEs. But not anymore. Randy Shannon hasn't had a TE eclipse even 400 yards since he's been the HC. He hasn't even recruited the position that well as he has nothing more than a few three star TEs in the four classes since he's been there.

And hey, I'll admit, I wanted this kid. Until I found out from a poster on another forum (who has a son attending school with Jenkins) what kinds of things he is saying in school and what kind of work ethic he's got. You of all people should be happy about this lingo. The sooner we can forget about some of these high-profile kids now means we won't be "villainizing" them before signing day. I couldn't care less about these recruits when the eliminate BYU early in the process because I know we'll move on (there's plenty of time as opposed to what Kona left us). So there won't be another word about him from me. But that doesn't change the fact that ignoring BYU when you are a TE may not be the smartest thing to do. Sure he could have success elsewhere. But no other school has had consistent and sustained success with TEs than BYU. And that was with a bunch of players that got passed over by the "bigger programs". Imagine what we'll be able to do now with the likes of Wilson, Mahina, Holt, Meuhlmann, Friel, Sampson, etc. The future is bright at BYU for quality TEs.

Need more proof of his immaturity when it comes to decision-making?

"I just got off the phone with coach (Lane) Kiffin," Seferian-Jenkins told Scout.com. "They said that they are verbally offering me and that a written offer will be out in the mail tomorrow."

Seferian-Jenkins, who already had 20 offers to date and this week already said that he's close to narrowing things down to his final 10, reacted a little differently when he got the news of this newest offer. "(USC) are at the top of my list," he said, matter-of-factly. "Them and UCLA."

So what is it about USC that Seferian-Jenkins likes? "What's not to like?" he countered. "Coach Kiffin, he's been in the NFL, he knows how to win big games."

Knows how to win big games? Where's the evidence for that statement? He certainly didn't win big games with the Raiders, nor with Tennessee. In fact his records both his years as a HC are 1-3 and 7-6 respectively. Yeah, that's impressive. On top of that, if this kid doesn't factor in that USC is going to get slapped with sanctions any day now he's doing himself a serious disservice.

Yes, yes, because there's no one ever who doesn't go to BYU who has a bad work ethic, everyone that goes to other football programs has a great work ethic, above-average intelligence, and great moral fiber, every single one.

If he wants Yewtah over the Cougs - I hope he goes to USC or UCLA. Good luck & good-bye!!!!

I agree safari jenkins has a much better shot at the nfl by going to byu than usc or florida. He would be stupid to pass on byu, just plain stupid.

we don't need this guy anyway for the reasons stated above. i couldn't care less really. losing kona hurts more than this guy. we are stacked at tight end, always have been, always will be. We could use some good d-ends though.

Agreed - Kona was a much deeper loss. It really stung. He would have plugged a big hole & been a solid asset - for years. Siggghhh!

Kona was no big loss. Seriously. BYU has little trouble getting good linemen, good TE's, good LB's, good QB's, and lately, good RB's. The issue with BYU is, and pretty much always has been, getting the really skilled WR, CB and Safety guys. Obivously, we want better than good, we want great. And Kona could be great. But his position is much easier for BYU to rcruit and replace next year than the skill ones. Gte me some top Corners, and BYU goes from good to great really fast. Our history shows that.

Kind of selective about who you give a pass to?

Schwenke vs. Sefarian-Jenkins. Big difference in opinion from you lingo.

Not that I care though.

This was always a 1% guy for BYU. Who cares about his work ethic though, the dude is 6'7"! You can't teach height.

Of course, he's not 11' like Kasen Williams. And that guy we have a 2% shot at!!!
