forced OOB TD vs USC?

What in the world?

Then they called the same receiver (Pittman) for offensive PI later which, while it went against USC, seemed equally bogus.



What am I missing?

Dayan G had himself a pretty good game.

I think either call could have gone either way. On both plays the WR and DB were both pushing each other.

Offensive PI the WR was pulling down on Dayan's shoulder pads, thus keeping him from being able to get height and defend. Rarely called, but correct. Dayan was in good position.



The "force" out of bounds was also great position by Dayan and should never have been called like it was. You can't have a WR push and pull then get a call for being forced out of bounds. Bogus.

ESPN guys were sure trying to see that one lol. Without the offensive PI that ball probably gets intercepted. The only contact was the WR pulling on him away from the ball.

On "after further review" they said that since the receiver and db were engaged, it automatically becomes "forced out" even if the receiver went out on his own. The other question was, was it offensive pass interference but the refs didn't call or review that.

Can they review PI?

They threw a flag, never mentioned a penalty unless OOB was what they flagged.

Is that even a reviewable play per NCAA rules? (No touchdown initially called)

It can be reviewed PI if they called PI which they didn't. The initial flag was for illegal touching which they overturned, then reviewed whether the receiver had established himself in bounds before catching the ball. (if you are forced out you have to establish yourself back inbounds before catching the ball)
