To those complaining the schedule has been too difficult, to many big names, this could be part of the reason. If BYU wants exposure we need to be playing teams that get eyeballs on the screen. Not many people itching to tune into BYU vs MWC level teams. BYU TV schedule for USC and WAshington are examples that BYU will get prime spots when they play the big names.



Personally, I don't know if USC and TEnnessee were much more than exciting games for BYU against decent talent and tumultuous coaching/AD changes. I suppose we'll find out as the season unfolds how good those wins were. much better than losing though.

And playing these teams in front of a lot of eyeballs is great...when you win.

Oh that sucks. Means I'll have to subscribe for a month.

Time to use that one week free trial! I will be hugely disappointed if we end up with multiple ESPN+ home games as part of our new contract.

“We are in a good spot,” Holmoe said. “We are at the tail end of good negotiations. There is the home games but then there is also the bowl series. The bowl games are the main reason it has taken more time to get to the end.”



He explained that the original BYU contract had a lot of specific bowls listed but the new contract will have more nuances.



“This time there may be some primary games but there might be opportunities to get out of those to get into other bowls,” Holmoe said. “Some of the bowls pit maybe the No. 7 team from the Big 10 vs. the No. 6 team from the SEC. If one of those conferences can’t fill those slots, contractually we might be able to get into those bowls. ESPN is working with the conferences and the bowls to take care of everyone.”

Since the MAC owns the rights to the game and it landed on ESPN+ I'd say this is more indicative of where G5 conferences like the MAC are going. Similarly the MWC has several games on streaming platforms through the season and rumors they might go all streaming since their TV deals aren't very attractive.



I personally think the streaming platforms are where more and more games will land after you pull the top games each week for the TV time slots. Isn't an ESPN+ subscription something like $5/month with no contract or $50/year? I'd pay $5 so that I can pull the game in on my Roku if it wasn't on TV.

Then, BYU better be talking to FOX, CBS, and NBC....our homes schedules for the next 5 or 6 years have at least 2 or 3 games that would be worthy of over-the-air broadcast and I'd rather have games like UNLV or Georgia Southern on FS1 or NBC sports (or even BYUTV) than ESPN+.

Maybe the agreement should be that if the game is on ESPN+ then KBYUtv has the option to also televise it.

The Tulsa World reached out to the Big 12 for comment on the decision, and associate commissioner Bob Burda replied via email: “In talking with our ESPN partners, it was agreed there was an opportunity to continue growing the new Big 12 on ESPN+ platform in this first year.”



Burda added the conference was approached by ESPN to add inventory to ESPN+. The Oklahoma State vs. K-State game was eligible to be moved and the Big 12 signed off. ESPN wisely saw the game as an attractive way to promote its digital platform, which it is...

I'm already looking for a way to see the UMass game since it will be on a regional network this year. My cable bundle already doesn't include channels like CBSSports so when games end up there I'm out of luck anyway. And I'm fine to pay a little money to get the non-marquee games on a streaming service. In fact, if I streamed enough games I'd be tempted to drop my cable TV package again. I only have it now because Comcast jacks up the price of internet only service to be nearly the same as internet+basic TV--and I need my high speed internet for several reasons.
