Over the years I've read his articles - from time to time. He slings his swill & fancies himself a slick intellectual. This slimey article about Austin Collie - a class act - makes my skin crawl. Gordie is a classless purveyor of tabloid level crap. Gordie boy attacks a class guy and a world class athlete because all he can do is stir the pot and thump his own arrogant chest. What a punk!

What's new? Monson wouldn't know talent if it hit him square in the face (SEE: Cheering for Utah). He skips over the 6 catches for 66 yards IN THE SUPERBOWL AS A ROOKIE! That's a great job! Speaking of the number six, Collie's 6 figure income beats the hell out of the peanuts this idiot gets thrown at him for his diatribes. 3 years later people are still angry about stuff that I bring up right now on the radio.



The utes are going to need magic, 4th down plays, and maybe even a little EXTRA demon worship to get past the cougs this year.

You guys are too sensitive. And you're doing nothing but ENABLING Monson. If you don't like what he says, then quit reading it! Yes, he tries to "stir the pot"...and it works. Because you all LET IT.



Again, two points here:



1. Don't be so sensitive. Who gives a crap what Monson says. I don't.



2. If you don't like something, don't participate in it, or through your participation, you are continuing to enable said detested item or event.

I seriously doubt that Collie is being "haunted" by his magic happens comment. He is in the NFL making six figures, Rookie of the year contender(my opinion), contributing 60 receptions for 676 yards and 7 touchdowns for a team that played in the Super Bowl. Do you really think he lays in bed at night wishing he wouldn't have said "magic happens" nearly 3 years ago?



The only people that are still offended by this comment are pathetic U fans who have NOTHING to else to talk about because BYU has dominated them in football and basketball this year.



Gordon Monson is worthless. His "opinion" is always aimed to get the most readers/listeners. He's spineless and arrogant and I can't stand him.

I wonder how long Monson has been stewing about those "words" and just waiting for the opportunity to pounce on the kid. HA ha, what a pathetic tool.

Monson is a BYU alum. His daughter plays tennis at the U. BYU and U fans pretty much equally dislike him, so in that regard, he reveals no bias to either school either way. Personally, I think he tries to stir the pot too much with the angles he takes, but it obviously sells for the Trib, a paper that is dying. At the end of the day, who cares what he writes? I am sure Austin Collie doesn't, so neither do I.

I saw nothing wrong with Collie's comments, I agree with him, and Monson is a dumb U.

My favorite part of the article was when he said "There were few dissenting e-mails" or something to that extent.



Writing as a Ute sports commentator in the SL Tribune = self-regulating e-mails. None of his readers are going to e-mail him saying "Too bad the Colts lost the Super Bowl, but Collie looked pretty good for a rookie, huh?"



I'm guessing he only gets e-mails with "dissenting opinions" after, you know, he publicly expresses them.

P.S. Anybody care to wager that he uses this EXACT ARTICLE as a template when Max Hall doesn't get drafted/gets cut/throws a pick in an exhibition game/etc.? Only swapping out "Collie" for "Hall" and "Magic Happens" with "classless"?

Interesting. Monson was among those who opined that Max's comments were more inflamatory becasue they were made after the game, after he had won, when they wouldn't be bulletin board material. Many (including Monson IIRC) indicated they would have had more respect for Max had he made the comments before hand, then gone out and played the game with that hanging over him.



Following that logic, should we all respect Monson less (can you respect someone negatively?) since this wasn't his mid-week Superbowl lead-up article?

Monson writes like a true slovenly, self annointed, couch pontificating puke. He twirls around in his adjustable office chair, staring at the ceiling tiles, and ponders how he can "wordsmith" his useless tabloid sports crap. His hands are soft, his wit dull, his muscles flabby & sagging as he attacks a top notch NFL athlete. Austin Collie is a dedicated & classy guy. Gordie is a cut-throat, backstabbing slime that lines his pockets by slandering good people (Austin Collie) & a good organization (BYU Football). But - karma will knock on his door when he is without a job & he's collecting shopping carts. Gordie the cart boy!

I would say that Monson tarnishes the Tribune, except that most of the tribune is as bad as he is, and not just in sports. I guess I would say that he is a good fit there.



This guy is also a schmuck just barely smart enough to know how to stir things up. Just think of him as a troll. Aside from other Ute trolls, I doubt he has any friends, as he is too smug and insufferably pleased with himself to be tolerable company.



Let us pity him.
