Interesting Comments from Tayo

" Tayo Fabuluje, a defensive end out of Arlington, Texas, was heavily recruited by BYU and Utah. He said his experience with Utah left a lot to be desired. “[Utah] just had a bad vibe about it,” Fabuluje said. “It didn’t seem like I could spend my next four years there.”



According to Fabuluje, he was turned off by the attitudes of those he came in contact with at Utah. “Their players were cocky and their coaches were cocky,” Fabuluje said. “Confidence is good, but being cocky is another thing, and they cross the line.”



Unlike the constructive, positive approach he said BYU took in recruiting him, Utah did and said just about anything to convince him that BYU wasn’t the school for him. “The whole time I was there they spoke smack about BYU,” Fabuluje said. “I didn’t know if they were trying to recruit me to Utah or just make sure I didn’t go to BYU. It got old.”



Eventually, Fabuluje decided the camaraderie he felt at BYU made the difference. “When I went there it felt like the right place,” Fabuluje said. “Everyone was a big family, and no one else had that family atmosphere, and obviously they’re good at football.” "

Of course this isn't surprising. The thing that is amazing is even after the success the :utard: have had in the last 5 years they are still jealous of BYU, it just shows the lack of maturity that starts at the top. This again is confirmation that MAX WAS RIGHT!!!

Didn't Quezada make comments of a similar nature a few months ago? Something along the lines of Utah RBs only being interested in their own playing time and BYU feeling like an actual "team."

This is the second time we've heard about the extremely negative recruiting style of Utah. I think it's a sad and pathetic practice and anyone who practices it suffers from serious character flaws.

It is CFB, part of the deal. I think we could hear stories like this between Michigan and tOSU recruits, Alabama and Florida and down the line. having said that, I do appreciate the element of team that bronco has built at BYU. Band of Brothers was the best theme they ever used. It should be a program constant.

Unga made similar comments about how Utah recruited him. He told both BYU and Utah recruiters that he was going to the other school: BYU told him 'good look, I wish we didn't have to play you'; Utah told him 'they're going to make you play linebacker and you'll never get any pt there'.



I wonder if Max Hall would have any comments about Utah recruiting strategies?

I love that this quote is coming from a kid who didn't grow up around the rivalry. The fact that he is from Texas means that he has a pretty unbiased opinion and is just calling it how he sees it. I think that this comment reflects on the state of the U more than anything. The fact that they have won 2 BCS games and are still focused so much on BYU proves that even success cannot cure the U of their little sister syndrome. And if success can't cure it, nothing will.

News flash: BYU and Utah are different! Both recruiting strategies work. But not necesssarily for the same individual. I think what's interesting is that you can tell that BYU does a much better job at screening their recruits. You don't hear too many recruits saying how they hated their visit at BYU. BYU only brings in kids they think might be a good fit for the Cougs. Then the visit is to see if they really would be. Utah apparently casts a much wider net. I have no problem with Tayo comments, nor do I have any problem with Utah's approach.

Correct. I also think there isn't anything that isn't true about what Tayo said. The LAST place Utah coaches want a player they are also recruiting to go is BYU. So he is probably correct that they were trying to dissuade him from BYU nearly as much as they were trying to entice him to Utah.

I heard Kyle Gunther talking on 1280 the Zone yesterday about this issue. His take was that Utah recruits this way because they have a right to be cocky because of their BCS wins. He said that commits (like Tayo) who have issue with this attitude are "afraid of the depth chart" and that Utah doesn't need them. So funny! Utah's classic little brother syndrome plays out even in recruiting where they have to try to badmouth our program in order to build themselves up. I can't wait for this next football season. Go cougs.

The comment about specific players seeming cocky at Utahis a bit surprising and I'm sure it's just perception. I'm not saying they aren't cocky, but I've been around enough to know that one man's perception of cocky is another man hearing "come join us". We all see things differently most of the time. I'm glad Tayo felt that way anyhow.



I agree with kitic on the issue that I don't have a problem with Utah talking smack on BYU because I don't want anyone on our team that is stupid enough to believe what any coach from one team says about someone else's program. I don't go to Dell if I want to learn about a MAC and the young man that isn't that aware of such talk isn't someone I want around unless I'm looking for another tackling dummy.
