BYU and Boise State

We are now going to have a home and home pair of games with Boise State. I think it will be good for both schools.

The only thing I don't like is they get the first home game. Historically, having the first game at your court signifies your position of power. Not 100% true, but one of the "general" guidelines. I don't like giving Boise anything.



In football, my nephew is the starting safety for Boise State. At a wedding last month (in Boise), I was told that the Boise contingent of our family believes family is more important than school ties and they expect me to sit with them and cheer on Kekoa in Provo this next season, or I'd not be in a very good place. Well, at least he's only a nephew by marriage, and I'm glad I have until this fall to think about that one.

In theory yes. I just don't know that I'm a good enough actor that if such were to happen, and I was sitting among them at the game, that I wouldn't be so foolishly excited.



To me, beating Boise is big. Not as big as beating Puketah, and even less than beating USU, but right up there just the same. It seems to be the schools where you know there are substantial LDS contingents that your competitive juices boil and you want more to beat them than the next guy. Kekoa is an RM and is getting married in the temple this month, so he's a good kid and I can celebrate that. I just wish he would have come to BYU. His father attended BYU and grandfather (Henry Nawahine) played for BYU. Kekoa has been starting games for BSU since his freshman year and in his junior year was a 2018 MWC Honorable Mention.



At the reception of a wedding last month, his grandfather told me about playing for BYU in 64-65 after having played for Ricks College. He was the starting running back. At the end of the season he got a letter that informed him that he had gotten drafted. He said his first response to the letter was that the thought he had gotten drafted into the NFL. Examining the letter more he discovered that he had gotten drafted into the Army and was shipped over to Vietnam and spent a year driving a truck there and having experiences he never dreamed of after a BYU football career.

Henry Nawahine was at Ricks when I was. I believe he was a Jr. college all american at running back. I thought he played wide receiver at BYU. He married a Hawaiian girl I dated. She was a very good person and danced the Tahitian better than anybody I have ever seen. I'd like to hear more about them.

That's awesome. I loved listing to his stories about BYU back in the day and especially Vietnam. He get's around a bit slow with a walker and he's still married to his beautiful wife. A lot of his family was at the wedding, but being that they are related by marriage to my niece, I don't know them well, but there's nothing like a Polynesian wedding reception. I'm looking forward to seeing him on the 29th at his grandson's wedding. BM me your name and I'll tell him you said hello.

Thanks. I wish he'd have wanted to come to BYU. The second article was very interesting because it listed all the RMs playing college ball. I see Utah State has more than Utah.
