What would you do?

Say you date a girl and decide to propose, she says yes and you set a date etc...then you find out she is still 'playing the field' with other guys. She admits to still looking around, but says I'm still committed to you. How many would call it all off? I know I sure would.



Maybe this is a poor analogy, but bottom line is to play at BYU isn't a right, it's a privilege that's earned. For Bronco, it goes beyond the field and he has to be able to trust his players to go to class, obey the honor code and be a team player, if he feels that he can't trust a player, regardless of the situation, then I applaud him for cutting that player loose. He has built this program on these principles and that is just the way it is, the program will go on and be just fine.

If I was 18 and I got all this media attention at something that I was awesome at. I would probably think it's a "right" for me to go anywhere I wanted to go AND I could go visit any school I got an offer to go visit.



Things change. When I was younger all I wanted was to make as much deniro as possible. As time moves along... I realize it isn't about the money, but the quality of life.



Kona thought BYU was the place. Notre Dame came calling with their new coach who's trying to salvage a recruiting class of his own. Notre Dame has went after a few lately. Now Brandon Bourbon(BYU went after him before Drew Phillips) is only a soft commit to Stanford and is on his way to ND as well.



This is the nature of the beast. We all know it. Ross Apo did the exact same thing. Luckily it worked out for Texas to land three top ten recievers JUST like how it WILL work out for BYU as well. It always works out in the end.

No he did not. He de-committed 8 months before the signing day, then committed to BYU. Schwenke proclaimed himself 100% committed right down to the last weekend, then went (starry eyed) on a recruiting trip ( still claiming to be committed) against the will of his "committed" coach. It will work out, but it won't work out that we land three top ten DEs between now and signing day. There is a huge difference here.

So I gotta question. Do you know both sides of the story? Do you know Kona really wasn't committed? His actions show he wasn't, but do any of us really know that??? We only heard what his dad said.



There are two sides to every story and then the truth. We only know the media's side of the story. If I had an opportunity to go visit ND and be pampered like a king. I would totally do it. Bronco then calls him at the airport. Drew Phillips had time to cancel the trip.



We just don't have enough info to truly know what was any intention NOR will will now.

It helps that I had my older sister as an example. She was a Div. I-A gymnast. BYU offered her a scholarship early and expected her to accept it because she was LDS. Meanwhile, all of the PAC-10 schools VERY actively and aggressively recruited her. The BYU coaches were comfortable in their expectation that she would go to BYU, so they never called or wrote her. She took it personally, and went to Arizona (whose coach spent the most time contacting her), where she was a scholar-athlete for 5 years. And boy was that a mistake for her.



She does have good stories about how the basketball players got free cars from boosters though.

I kinda feel like I'm speaking for both parties here. I understand Kona's side and see what he's doing and trying to accomplish.



On the other hand... I totally understand Bronco's expectations. He's expressed his opinion about his athletes. How most of them are return missionaries and how they've been through more life experiences than the typical college student. So he expects more out of them and holds them to a higher standard. I can totally understand Bronco's expectations from each individual and not hold any special treatment for a certain one wether they serve a mission or not.

I know that Bronco told him not to go and what the ramifications would be. I know that Bronco had the right to set those terms. I Know that Bronco had a good reason for not wanting one of his commits to make such a trip. I know that Bronco is very streight forward and honest with his recruits (unless all the other recruits and their parents, even the ones that don't commit, are lying). I know that Bronko didn't break that news to Kona when he was at the airport, because he had already told his commits that (see above qualification). Do I really need to know the whole story? Really??? Really???
