Deseret First Duel

First of all, it’s the Holy War when BYU plays Utah in football. Period.



However, with BYU’s win over Utah in baseball in the books, it’s official. BYU’s choke job in football cost us the overall Deseret First Duel title yet again.



In the non football sports, BYU had 5 victories which counted towards the total and Utah had 6.



Had we held on to win the football game, we would have had 6 victories to their 6 in all sports, and there is a bonus given for the winner of the football matchup, so we would have won overall via tiebreaker.



Anyway, that choke job in November cost us from declaring sports supremacy and being the big brother this year in more ways than just football.



It’s time to reverse the curse.

But....I thought that the best part of the football season was being up 28 points on the utes...........

If we lost the duel 5-6, then if we had won the football game, then they would have lost, and so we would have won the duel 6-5, right? Non need for a tie-breaker.

Not that it matters. Your point that the major melt-down still finds ways to sting in mid-May is spot on.



I'm still amazed at how many different ways BYU has found to lose in the last 8 years.

There are points for each game. Football is worth more points.

Excluding the football game it was 5-6. Including the football game it was 5-7.

C’mon. It’s the Deseret Freakin’ Duel - some stupid duel made up by a credit union to generate name recognition for themselves. Personally, I give it neither credence nor attention. Generally, I wish it would quietly go away.

I don’t care for the name either, but it’s purely based on results from our athletics teams vs Utah’s teams. So it’s not exactly an irrelevant statistic.
