BYU has also offered Mady Sissoko, who is from Mali, West Africa--one of the most heavily recruited juniors in the country, a 6-10 forward. Two sources confirmed that Pope recently made a trip to West Africa to visit with Sissoko’s parents, who are devout Muslims, like their son. At first glance, BYU would seem to be a long shot for Sissoko, who also has offers from Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, Minnesota and others. However, the family is intrigued by how BYU’s Honor Code closely resembles some of the tenets of their own religious beliefs, sources say. Sissoko averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in 2018-19 and carried a 3.56 grade point average, according to the school’s website.



BYU has also offered Wasatch Academy rising senior forward Caleb Lohner, and rising senior guard Richie Saunders, who is from Riverton. Wasatch Academy forward Leo Colimerio, who is also from Brazil, holds a BYU offer as well.



Last month, BYU released Chinese big man Shengzhe Li from his NLI. Li, from Shanghai, China, played for former BYU assistant Jeff Reinert at Santa Margarita Catholic High in Southern California last season. Reinert said the parting was a mutual agreement.

*Toolson hasn't been accepted by a BYU graduate program yet.

Trevin Knell is now home from his mission. I guess if there is any issue with his commitment with Coach Pope we will hear shortly.

I know some were hoping Childs would return to BYU since he isn't getting NBA or G-League love. However,

This mentions the scholarship situation and names a bunch of players totaling 12 scholarships and indicates that Pope has 1 left to use. Leifson was not listed as one of these players so maybe he isn't on scholarship? Childs must decide NBA Draft or return to school by May 29. Emery will be back. The NCAA sanctioned loss of 1 scholarship was completed last year so they are back to 13 again.

Childs announced yesterday or the day before that he would not return to BYU no matter what happened with him professionally.
