DAMN and DAMN (Phillips/Schwenke now "Soft" Commits)

This would suck to lose both these guys. Especially Schwenke with so many questions on the DL next year and Kafusi going on a mission. What's happening to turn these guys off anyways?? What did they do, ask Schwenke to go on a mission before enrolling??

Negative recruiting from Te'o and Sark got Jamora. Combine those 3 talking bad about BYU with the other Te'o and you got the Schwenke situation.



Phillips, it sounds like he just wants one last free plane ride and weekend of food and entertainment. I hope.

what does that have to do with kona? I have not heard anything that suggests that he drinks. if that is what your suggesting lets please not go there while he is still making his decision.

We have good depth at D-line, but just need that one great player to make everyone else on that line better. It helps if it is a NT or DT type, but an end can really make a difference too. Schwenke looks really good, so I hope he honors his commit.



I will say this. BYU has had more issues with poly players committing and then backing out over the last 3-years than I can recall previously(Kaveinge, Manti, Jamora, etc). Is there an anti-BYU or anti-Bronco sentiment growing on the northshore? Recruiting issues?

I"m less concerned with Phillips but it certainly appears the Schwenke's are actively shopping for more offers. At first it was the whole UW rumors. I discounted those pretty easily. Sark knows BYU's recruits are quality and what's more knows first hand how great the Polys are. But ND jumping in the picture? That just smacks of a kid/family who are still looking for another situation than BYU.



My beef is don't commit in the first place if you're not sure but especially don't then go and pull this crap in the final week before signing day. That just smacks of really low integrity. How would Kona like it if BYU pulled their offer the day before signing day? And after all the other schools on his offer list have since filled their scholarship allotment? It wouldn't be too cool now would it, Kona? Think about it.

I don't know if at has anything to do with Kona or not, but I can tell you that I grew up in Hawaii and the vast majority of the kids I grew up with (LDS or otherwise) were raging alcoholics. Small sample size and shouldn't lead to a general conclusion, but that was my experience.

Just give Schwenke's scholarship to Hemuli.

I don't want him either at this point. They can both go suck it while BYU goes on to play in multiple BCS games over the next four to five year while they go wallow in the middle of the pack of whatever conference they finally decide on.

Really interesting new developments over at TBS concerning Schwenke. But I think it's an insider article so it's not exactly public info yet.

Chill out dude. You don't have all the facts. According to Kona's dad they are still in byu's corner. just let it play out. he may jsut be tripping bceuase it is a great oppportunity to travel and meet some old friends. he called byu to let them konw and he turned down a trip to uw earlier for that reason. He has been solid. lets give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Serously, think about it. You are in high school. You get offers from big programs to fly you out a and treat you like a king. You already know where you are going but many young kids are still going to take that trip just because they can. We read a lot into it, but it may be just that in both these instances.



If i were kona an nd offered me and said they would fly me out to see some old friends, I would want to go even if i knew i was giong to byu. in the end if he is secure in his commitment to byu, it will only help byu. It will make them look good when he decides byu over the likes of notre dame.



i can't fault the kid too much for doing it. wherever he goes he will be a great lds athlete. I am still holding out hope its byu. i hvae changed my opinion since reading that article in the nd scout report quoting his dad.

Kahuku and these families are dead to me if they continue to be this wishy washy with their commitments.

For all that BYU and the church has done on the islands, I'm tired of the January drama with these kids.

I hope my post would be taken as a very tongue in cheek response to some of the interesting challenges we've recently had in recruiting what used to be a very strong BYU area.



If the young man does decide to honor his commitment and come to BYU he will have no bigger fan than I!
